They had to have 5-8 points that had no business being makes.
It was more than that. They hit 3 or 4 3-point shots that were heavily defended late in the shot clock. They also hit a couple of mid range ones, and I think the 4-point play was late in the shot clock. It was closer to 12-15 points they got on low percentage shots.

They've been playing like that all tournament. They've got some talented one on one contested shooters.

Totally agree. There was no way you could say for certain it hit his shorts.
Like you said, we had more opportunities but points there could’ve changed the dynamic of the last minute. The next possession we got murdered underneath and didn’t get a call.

Why wan't it a kicked ball?

I'm not mad, just disappointed. Free throws and poor offensive scheme/execution are why we lost.
However, I think a big factor in all this is that we were the hunted, instead of the hunter. I think Oats even said something about him not being used to being in this position.
Much like the seniors on the 08 team changed the culture and trajectory of the football program, this bunch of seniors have changed the culture of Alabama basketball.
Its now up to the guys left behind to continue that trajectory.

I don't understand why we don't implement jump stops and floaters into our scheme. It feels like a gimme easy look when defenders are on their heels anticipating a rim run or looking to help on a perimeter player.

It was a kickball, but they said it grazed Petty shorts. How they saw that and could make a definitive call on that is beyond me

Exactly. The great ones spend lots of extra time in the gym shooting FTs. It's boring, but you have to do it if you want to excel at the highest level.
We were Good At FTs until the last couple of games in the regular season. Just fell off for some reason
We weren't bad. We were 135th in the nation and 6th in the SEC.

How many turnovers did we have? Seemed like we had a shite ton. Many of them unforced too.

I thought it was pretty clear the ball hit Petty’s shorts. Just bad luck for us it happened under 2 minutes so they could review it. I didn’t think they made a definitive call on the floor, so not sure they overruled it.
Only really bad call all game was the no-call on Gary’s shot the next possession. That’s a foul they call 9 out of 10 times and had been calling it all night. Not that it matters as Gary likely would have bricked both free throws.

Never have heard of a turnover being called because of ruffled shorts

When you look at missing the front end of a 1/1 or both of 2 as a turnover the number gets even uglier.

Kicked balls are supposed to automatically stop the possession and give the ball back to the offense.

Yea were an above average free throw shooting team - the best Alabama one in like 20 years.
That's why this is even more frustrating.

Technically, by rule, it has to be an intentional kick to be a violation. They may very well have ruled that it wasn't an intentional kick.

If I have one minor irk it’s that the offense really stagnated with the ball in Herbs hands this whole tournament. We should have let JQ handle it more and let Herb do more junkyard dog stiff
Posted on 3/28/21 at 9:23 pm to LovetheLord
Not true. Official’s judgment call if it was intentionally kicked or not.

We have a lot of mentally weak "fans".
