He and Gottfried buying players was the wild freaking west. What a mess My gosh, we got lucky that we didn’t get caught.
The NCAA didn't want anything to do with diving into recruiting practices in York, AL, Jackson, Meridian and everywhere in between.
Man there were some ballplayers over that period in West Alabama and East/Central Mississippi.

I said it before and will say it again...I know what Gerald Wallace drove and where his Mama lived before he went to Bama and I know what he drove and where his mama lived after he signed with Bama

There's no doubt - and Gerald Wallace was that first guy Gottfried KNEW he had to sign to set the tone. It was the splash he needed. He signed Cotton out of JuCo, but Wallace was an in-state borderline straight to NBA kid.

He would have stayed at Bama another year, but he hated Gottfried. I mean pure hate

Was Austin the kid in Gerald’s class that State got? There was another high profile player that chose State

He should have stayed because he couldn’t do anything but Dunk. But he made it and made millions

I dated a girl that went to Childersburg with Gerald, and then she worked in the athletic department at Bama. It wasn’t a secret that they didn’t get along

I can't remember the specific years but Mario Austin was somewhere in those early 2000s.

However, I would have payed a weeks paycheck to sit and here Finebaum get chewed out by Gottfried’s wife. I would want to be right behind Finebaum.

He averaged like 15 a game in our early awful non conference schedule and I swear 80% of them were dunks.
But man, he worked his arse off in the NBA and became a damn good player for a lot of years.

Just about everyone in this thread makes posts like that, including myself.
I don't and there are definitely different levels of NegaBammerism.
You have Saban and Bear is in Tier 1 by himself obviously, Bryant90210 or whatever his name is in Tier 2.

Why isn’t there a damn gif of Antonio Mcdyess with his dunk against Penn??? That needs to be something that is shown daily
This dunk was perhaps the most super human thing that I’ve ever seen a Bama player do
I swear he jumped with the whole Penn team on his back

I saw him score 59 points in a game (which I think is the state record or was) and I swear 40-45 of them were dunks.
Also, The rumor around here back then was originally he was gonna stay because he was intrigued about playing with Mo. But that didn’t happen. What I think happened was he wanted Gottfried to pony up more $$$ for him to stay and Gottfried wouldn’t do it
