Is the program better now than what Gottfried left it? We still have no depth, no talent, and no coaching. Nothing has changed.

I'm just disgusted man. I just watched the entire Mercer game and i'm gonna go ahead and be resigned to a shitty season. We will be lucky to win six conference games..........

No. Like I said over on the SECr, we have no cohesion on offense, Carl was our best big....CARL! He can't even fricking dribble, or shoot, or rebound, or do fricking anything other than be 7'1" tall but he was our best big by a goddamn country mile. Pollard sucks donkey dick and wouldn't even start for motherfricking Jackson State. Cooper is the only freshman who has improved any from last year.

what a horrible loss. Does this mean Grant is on the hot hot seat if he does not make it back to the dance. This was the year they were building towards. The loss of Carl and Steele can't be that huge. Steele was a leader but Carl was taking up a lot of space. Carl, in his third year shows little to no progress and Gueye is the same way

I'd say the hot seat needs to be on fire right about now.

What happened to the two previous coaches that lost to Mercer?

I'm trying to think of things worse than Alabama basketball.

So far I've come up with genocide and aids

Eta: and Alabama baseball

Just got back from the game. I'm sure the problems/poor performance has been discussed at length, so I'll just point out that I witnessed 3 things I don't recall ever seeing before:

1. 5 minutes into the game the announcer invited everyone to move down to the open seats closer to the court (I'm sure so it would look better on TV)

2. A team shoot 3 airballs on 1 possession (Mercer)

3. A double-bounce bounce pass (from Lacey to Relevord cross court in transition)

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of boos start reigning down from Coleman. This team and staff deserves that. I really don't expect anyone to go to games except for UK and Auburn. Such a pathetic year from Grant.

I don't think the players deserve to be booed. They are playing hard, and they can't start going out there doing whatever they want and ignoring the coaches. That is what happened at the end of Gottfried's tenure. The staff absolutely deserves to lose the support of the fans. They have done an abysmal job of player development.

I think some of them play hard but it looks like Jacobs doesn't give a shite nor does he try. Also, does Lacey disappear offensively because he takes possessions off or is it because no player can excel consistently offensively in our 'system.'

“As a competitor, as a former athlete, it’s hard to really understand,” Grant said. “When you lace it up in-between the lines, there’s an internal pride in performance that you have to have, and if you don’t have that … I haven’t figured out a way to coach that. OK?

That's from his press conference. Is there something in Grant's personality where guys don't want to compete for him? Is that why Green and Mitchell just quit at times? It's something to think about.

I thought the players played hard today. I remember at least 3 times where Jacobs dove on the floor after a loose ball.

The issues were poor execution on offense and mental lapses on defense.

But even if CAG is right about the players lacking some intagible, he recruited every player that played today, so it still falls on him.

I think Lacey plays pretty hard for the most part. I'm not sure if our offense causes him to disappear from time to time or not. He is still just a sophomore, and consistency is usually the last thing that comes around. On the other hand, our players all seem afraid to take shots early in the clock and if a guy starts out a little cold he seems to become even more reluctant to pull the trigger. I have no factual basis for this, but I am starting to get the feeling that Grant really preaches "take the smart shot" and "don't make mistakes" to the point that the team plays tight. That is basically the same philosophy that Saban brings to football, but it works for football. Basketball requires a certain degree of leeway in that regard so that good players can freelance and make plays on their own though. We don't seem to have that.

It was another terrible offensive night, and one of the worst offenses in the nation couldn't miss the 2nd half, add that to the fact that their big man obliterated us down low, and you get disastrous results like tonight. I think it was Bryant that once mentioned that Jacobs might be unhappy with his PT and might transfer...go ahead dumbass. Your about as useless as a poopy-flavored lollipop. You have one thing you are decent at. A left-handed hook shot. Kudos! Everything else, offensively, defensively, rebounding, you suck at! He can't guard his shadow, can't get up and down the floor, can't rebound, and can't even do a simple drop-step to his right even when they GIVE him the whole right side to work with and place an extra defender on his left. I knew as soon as the ball was passed down-low to him it was game over. It's unbelievably predictable.

It seems as though Cooper and Releford are the only ones that don't care about how many shots they have taken (which was Cooper's exact opposite problem throughout his AAU career, which is weird).
