Auburn got a bye week, mercer, and then us. Plenty of time to prepare and pull out all the stops.

Sounds like it’s going to be 2005 all over again.
In 2005, Alabama had the fewest scholarship players in major college football. Auburn was in its golden age because it was picking up tons of players who would have gone to Alabama barring sanctions - they entered the game at #11 and it wouldn't surprise me if they were favored. That era was contingent on a very specific set of circumstances that we're never seeing replicated again, so it's ridiculous to keep trotting it out as a metaphor for the present.
This will be a tough game because Auburn has three weeks to prepare. But while it's often said that Alabama never beats a good Auburn team, when was the last time that Alabama lost to a truly terrible Auburn team like this one? 2003 Auburn went 8-5, which seems to be the worst record they've had in a season where they beat Alabama since at least before Bear Bryant.

Auburn is much better than their record indicates. All of their losses have been close. They just lost at Vanderbilt in overtime. Their issue mostly has been quarterback. They looked vastly different with Ashton Daniels. I hate Auburn as much as the next person but they have talent on their team and their defense has been terrific most of the season.

Every predictor I could find has us between 81-96% getting in with a loss in the SECCG.

It all comes down to AU game. Zero chance they leave out the SEC runner up. Sankey would melt things down and we’d potentially do our own thing.

I hate to say I’m glad we lost to Oklahoma but I think back to OSU last year and they lost late. Change their entire team. We have a massive glowing target on ourselves now and Ty knows he has been a turnover machine. If we don’t fix those things knowing team literally studied it. We deserve to lose.

I hear that, but I’m a bit worried about a momentum and confidence problem. UGA players are mentally tough and expect to overcome obstacles. We certainly have done that a time or two, but I’m not sure our team is prepared for what it takes to win if AU is playing way above their heads in Jordan Hare like they are prone to do. I’d argue that even UGA probably should have lost to AU this year.

Exactly. Georgia has improved over the course of the season. They looked so confident last night. Their talent level is really not much different than ours. But, as you said, they are mentally tougher than Alabama.

I don’t disagree. Anyone who thinks Auburn doesn’t give us an absolute fit isn’t paying attention. UGA has definitely got some swag. I guess we may see them again.

Georgia is coached better. They make incredible in game adjustments. And for all of the grief that their fans give Mike Bobo, he’s done a great job with their offense. Stockton has been fantastic.

Our inability to put teams away and propensity play down to our opponent means the AU game is going to be another 4 quarter voodoo fest.
We’re going to do exactly what we can’t do in JHS: let AU stay in the game and have hope to pull off an upset that would salvage their season while spoiling our’s at the same time.

Yep. It all comes down to coaching and their mentality. DeBoer is soft and so is Grubb. I fully expect DeBoer to channel his inner Mike Shula when we play the barn.

Yep.
I'm expecting a fight for the ages in Jordan-Hare in two weeks. There ain't no way we win in a blow out. Auburn will give us everything they've got and we'll play down to their level to keep it close for four quarters. Auburn may very well win.

Unless we flip the script. It’s possible.

What if we beat Auburn and lose in the SECCG? Does a 3 loss Bama team make it?
According to all the sunshine pumpers if Bama beats Auburn they’re automatically in the playoffs, even with a 3rd loss in the sec championship game….me, I don’t trust the ncaa saying a loss in your championship game will not be held against you!

Yep. Something is precedent until it’s not. Leave no doubt and win them all. It would be bs for us to get left out after losing the SECCG but it would certainly be possible.
