Knowing Oats did everything he could to land this kid and because UK comes in a couple days before his commitment with an offer 3x ours it all meant nothing
Yeap and I think it means we lose Oats unless the new settlement deal really does work to slow down NIL spending outside of the school's pool.
He's too competitive to be stuck losing due to a factor he cant control.
I know the school would never let the football team take any kind of reduction, but just a little bit of football resources with a coach like Oats would mean multiple national titles.

I’m of the opinion we should give 50% of the Rev share to basketball…our boosters will spend and make up the difference in football. They won’t in Basketball.
So if we give $18M to our athletes through Rev share basketball should get $9M and Football should $9M. That way Basketball boosters only have to supply $3M-$5M. Football Boosters can easily supply $15M-$20M

They may have came with a much bigger NIL offer. But to say they came in at the last second is hilariously wrong.
From wiki...
quote:
Johnson grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and initially attended Woodford County High School.
quote:
Johnson's father, Dennis Johnson, played college football at Kentucky and in the National Football League for the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.[11] His uncle Derrick also played football at Kentucky.[12] Johnson's grandfather, Alvis Johnson, played football at Western Kentucky and was the head football and track coach at Harrodsburg High School before serving as an assistant athletic director at Kentucky.[13]
With his Grandpa being a for long time assistant AD, and his dad and uncle playing football at Kentucky, whether NIL was allowed or not, Kentucky was never gonna let him go somewhere else.
They weren't going to let a legacy blue chip recruit go somewhere else. Not with a new coach trying to prove himself recruiting after taking over for a long time legend, like Cal. I really wanted him too. But I kept my expectations super low with him.
Hell, the fact we made them pay triple was pretty damn impressive.

Pretty much every basketball insider known to man was predicting him to Alabama (even UK ones) until that final NIL offer was made. If you're saying they would've payed him illegally then sure. But the money was the determining factor

Jasper is talented for sure but I'll take the group of freshman we got over somebody who values money.
So in my eyes Coach never had him anyway because he valued money over everything.

I'm glad he went to Kentucky then.
We don't need those problems.

I'm quite sure the freshman we have aren't playing for free.

I’m quite sure Alabama wasn’t any of their highest offers.

At the end of the day, we are still paying them to play and we are certainly paying them more than some schools can offer. Getting emotional and saying "We didn't want them anyway if they are just about money" because they chose to take 1 million as opposed to say 250 thousand is just weird to me. Every financial advisor on the planet with any sense of adult fiscal responsibility is going to tell the child and his parents that every day you take a chance of having a career ending injury. If this was the difference between 10,000 & 20,000 dollars, it would be different... But we are talking life altering money here for kids who, in a lot of cases, will make more in one year than their parents have in their entire adult lives.

Yes it was. But what I'm saying is they were going to spend 4x-5x what we offered, if that's what it took, legal or not. They were always going to swoop in at the last second, riding on a pile of cash. He was a momentum/statement recruit for them.
It would kinda be like Brandon Miller having a son and him signing to play for Indiana. There's just no way in hell we'd let that happen. Our boosters would pull out all the stops.

I wonder if being on a 2 way deal would disqualify them, since they played minutes in an NBA game, it just being on an active roster. That said, frick it, let's make a precedent.
