UTk paid Nico $8 million before he even took a snap. Michigan is paying Underwood like $15 million before he has taken a snap.
Michigan paid Underwood $15m ??? Really?
So colleges are now competing with the NFL? How soon now before it’s $25 and then $50m? Laughable.

Don’t you think Alabama is doing the exact same thing? You have too or you won’t compete.

Both of those schools are attempting to steal Bama players at above market value deals to win points with their fans and hurt Bama.
I want the best players at the best value. If they come from those places fine, but I don’t need some moral victory to make myself feel better about our relative place in college football.

The player is worth what someone is willing to pay.
Those teams are looking for the best players wherever they can find them, just like us.

If you don’t think those teams are trying to overpay to create a narrative or at a minimum force us to pay our player more than they’re worth I don’t think you’ve been paying attention.

CFB is ridiculous at this point so Jackson Arnold getting $2.5 million isn't something I'd put outside the realm of possibility.
So Auburn went to the portal and got a QB that can’t pass and they’re paying him 2.5 mil? Lol, that’s so Auburn.
We know why? He’s an available QB that “beat Bama”. It’s why they hired Hugh Freeze.

So you think a college that is struggling to pull in enough NIL and struggling to even be relevant, can afford to pay players more then their worth, just to “create a narrative”? Ok, that makes sense.

I'm not dismissive of Jackson Arnold and not because he ran the triple option against us for 10 points with our own quarterback scoring the other 14 for him.
I don't think he got a fair shake: they didn't expect him to play this year but Gabriel got bought by Oregon and he was rushed onto the field probably a year ahead of schedule. Then their entire WR corp died in a rash on injuries similar to linebacker on our 2019 team. They also were playing walk-ons at tailback.
He's looked decent at times but a lot of being good at quarterback depends on the other 10 guys and that was a big problem for him. Our game was a classic case of a team looking ahead because they saw an opponent with an entire offense on the injury report but forgot that they still have guys on scholarship at a blueblood program. In fact, if our offense came in looking like they'd even prepared for what OU was doing then whatever Jackson Arnold and OU was doing would not have been enough.
Again, I don't think anyone should make too much out of what happened v. Alabama nor condemn Jackson Arnold because he played poorly much of this season. I could see him being a good quarterback in an offense like Freeze's to be honest. Especially since they do not lack for skill at WR.

So change of subject.
Y'all see where Jojo Earle is transferring to UNLV?

Do you know anything about Jimmy Rane?
Brian Kelly just publicly donated millions of his own dollars to NIL and was in Tuscaloosa personally recruiting a player.
So yes, both of those schools have boosters who would spend money to create a positive narrative with their program relative to Bama.
And neither of those schools are struggling with NIL based on recruiting and transfer portal results.

He's a guy I was really surprised that he just completely flopped not only here but at TCU.

He would do well under Dan Mullins though.

He made Kadarius Toney look like a stud instead of the bum he is...

Maybe so but it doesn’t seem OU valued him that much. They let him walk away while actively pursuing and paying $$$$ for a QB in the portal.

I've met him more than once. Friend of mine graduated wirh his son. Been to Rane Tree Place for the Christmas parties. Been to his stables. He isn't spending $2.5m on Jackson Arnold to create a narrative. He's a businessman. He isn't throwing money at a player to simply get people talking or to hurt BAMA. He's a true believer barner. No doubt about it. If he's throwing millions at a player it's because he thinks that player will help barn win.

Don't see any way Arnold can be worse than Thorne, but I guess we'll see.

I think we might see some players entering the portals this weekend
Posted on 12/26/24 at 10:20 pm to Marktastic86
Obviously bigger sample size with Thorne, but he seemed like a much more polished passer. He could make plays but would turn it over too much
Arnold not really done much of anything to say he is a competent passer. Besides the beyond dumb Alabama defensive scheme to allow them to run all over them, Arnold didn't do much with his arm

The FB portal closes on 12-28 and does not open again until the spring. They can either quit the team or declare for the NFL. 4-16 is when it opens back up
