Obviously circumstances are a little different, but the last time UGA landed a former Bama QB commit, the Tide turned around & added Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 1 dual-threat QB in the country. Is a similar situation unfolding with 5-star QB Bryce Young?

Beck appears to be from Whoville originally. So UGA being his dream sort of makes sense.

UGA isn’t even trying to hide it anymore.. it’s all in and check book open. Every high school coach is talking about it. Ole miss turned over evidence to the SEC after this last recruiting cycle. It happens everywhere but they are over the top and not trying to hide it.

Why wouldn't they? Best case scenario they never get caught and end up buying a national championship or two. Worst case scenario they get caught, have to replace some coaches, and get slapped on the wrist with a couple of years of no bowl games and the loss of ~10 scholarships. The NCAA lost what little power and credibility they had left with the Penn State, Miami, and UNC fiascos. They are never going to risk actually hammering anyone who truly deserves it ever again.

Pruitt told us to watch out when he came over from there to be our DC. Said that their boosters were fed up and going to begin opening the checkbook BIG TIME with Kirby being there. They had loosely played the game some over the years (about as much as most upper tier (top 15'ish) programs. But, the boosters were fed up with being UF's stepchild and not winning anything of substance. Pruitt was telling everyone who would listen about it.

But yeah, someone outside of the state of GA growing up dreaming of playing there? That's... umm... weird. I guess some kids just like to go against the grain of whatever location they live in and/or like the colors of a certain team.

LINK ]Recruits react to Bama's latest commitment (BamaOnLine)
quote:

It's March 2 and Alabama's 2020 class already sits with a dozen members, good for the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Four-star receiver LINK ]Traeshon Holden is the latest to join the Crimson Tide, announcing his commitment on Saturday following a visit to Tuscaloosa.

A product of Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy, Holden is commitment No. 5 for Alabama from the powerhouse program since 2018. Eyabi Anoma, Shane Lee, Darrian Dalcourt and Chris Braswell all played (or still play) for the Panthers.

The Tide's 2020 class is tight knit, so many of the current pledges reacted to the news on Twitter. Here, BamaOnLine takes a look at some of the notable reactions on social media. . . (more)

I don’t pretend to know who cheats and who doesn’t cheat but I do hope if UGA is dirty, the NCAA cripples them for years to come. If it’s true that other programs are turning them in, it could get interesting. Sounds similar to what was going on at OM a few years ago before they got hammered.

Sounds like the fact Fields was at UGA was the only reason Beck was interested in Bama. It happens. He will be the man when Bama plays the dawgs in 2020 in T-Town.

LINK ]Top Performers: The Opening Dallas Regional (247Sports | segments)
quote:

FRISCO, TX – The Opening Regional camp series for 2019 made its first stop in Texas on Sunday. Under the roof of the Dallas Cowboys practice facility, it’s easy to envision several of Sunday’s participants returning to The Star as a pro in a just few years. Already several have been invited back in just a few months for The Opening Finals and the Elite 11 Finals this summer. Here were the top performers . . .

The next 5 on offense . . .

3. QB,  Haynes King, Longview – The stock just keeps rising for King. First he ran a 4.50 in the 40, one of the fastest times of the day, regardless of position. Then he went on and showed a strong arm, accuracy and a clean delivery. This all came one day after running in a track meet and recently removed from his basketball season. King was a recent riser in the Top247 and the rise is likely to continue. Expect him to be the most highly recruited quarterback in the country this spring. He earned an invite to the Elite 11 Finals on Sunday. . . (hudl)

Top 5 on defense . . .

4. CB, Jalen Kimber, Mansfield – The day started with a bang for Kimber when he posted the highest football rating of the day – 125.85 – running the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and shuttle in 4.0 seconds, vertical jumping 40.8 inches and throwing the power ball 37 feet. He also won the Fastest Man competition, running a 4.43-second 40-yard dash. He then went on to showcase outstanding coverage skills, ability to play in phase with receivers, locate the ball, look and lean, and create breakups or turnovers. Already a Top247 member, Kimber saw his stock rise on Sunday. . . (hudl)

It's not really the sanctions that have hurt them though. The public nature and length of the investigation blew up their recruiting before any sort of restrictions were even handed down, and going from Freeze to Matt Luke was because Brother Hugh couldn't resist temptations of the flesh and called hookers on his fricking school issued cell phone. If they still had Freeze and the investigation had wrapped up pretty quickly I think they'd have managed to navigate the actual sanctions pretty easily.

Ole miss would do it all over again.. the reward vs risk was in their favor. Expect it to repeat. Think of the booster money UGA is raking in now.. it’s crazy

The booster money was ridiculous during that stretch and the booster have given the nod that it was acceptable and worth it. They will just be smarter about it.. to think it would still be going on if one player hadn’t recorded and turned them in. What’s the odds of that happening?? Very rare and slim.. no one wants to be a snitch. Especially young kids around their piers.

LINK ]The latest on Top247 CB Jalen Kimber (247Sports-VIP | Steve Wiltfong)
quote:

. . . 247Sports is hearing three schools are in the best shape to land the blue-chipper in Alabama, Notre Dame and Texas. As it stands right now, sounds like the Crimson Tide program is the one to beat. From the history of the program, to the player development and most importantly Nick Saban’s influence on the secondary, “it doesn’t get any better than that” a source close to Kimber said. Kimber will be visiting Tuscaloosa the weekend of March 15-16. . .

>>> 4-star CB Jalen Kimber 6-1/170 TX hudl

Eta: Jalen Kimber isn't from Whoville.

Eta: Wiltfong CBd Kimber to Bama (Tue, Mar 5).

yikes. It's funny that richt could always recruit around a 7-10th ranked class and people made fun of us for not doing better, now we recruit top 3 classes and we're breaking every rule in the book. And you are correct, we aren't doing anythign different than every other big time school in America does. It seems like people are only pissed about it now because we're getting guys other schools really want. But to act like we're doing something dastardly that's just unique to us is insane.

what kind of question is this? I'll skip over the multitude of reasons because they are so obvious they don't need explanation, but just to clarify it's not like he's from alaska. Jacksonville is a pretty big UGA area, just over the border, where we play probably our most high profile game every year. This committment was surprising for sure but it's not like it defies all logic.

Except the academic issues with UNC was totally different. The NCAA does not nor never had any authority regarding the academic issues that took place at UNC. The reason UNC lawyered up was because they knew that. Now for accreditation purposes they got off lucky but again the NCAA has no jurisdiction there what so ever. They over reached and their bluff got called.

If the new President at PSU would not have accepted the sanctions(which included no appeal) PSU would have basically done the same and challenged the NCAA's jurisdiction. Hence when pressed legally through the court system most of the sanctions were rescinded.

I agree the NCAA is a joke but it became a joke because it decided to go after things outside of the scope of their authority. Which in return made them a laughing stock.

Nakobe Dean's family's mechanic would be a good source to ask about it. I actually WISH Bama had "played the game" with him (I'm not naive enough to suggest we haven't been doing that some, especially with Lupoi). Georgia paid the bill for their car to be repaired. The story of him not visiting Bama on unofficial visits due to car problems was actually legit. Go figure. Golding lost out on him for a couple reasons. Arrogance (thought he was wrapped up by late Fall), and we wouldn't pay the bills. UGa did. Make of it what you want.
