Nah we need another TE too.

About 6 spots left unless there's more attrition. Top priorities we have a pretty good shot with include:
TE - Arik Gilbert
ILB - Phillip Webb and/or Jordan Banks
DB - Nadab Joseph and Joel Williams
WR - 1-2 more if elite - murky
RB - Zach Evans or Jase McClellan
QB - Bryce Young
DL - # depends on room - murky

so whats the deal with nadab joseph? did he just flip on bama last year or was it mutual or what. he seemed happy to get reoffered by bama. but, he did pick uga last time, right? if so, is this just a continuance of that game?
Posted on 8/28/19 at 5:20 pm to crimsontater
Joseph committed to Bama and wanted to sign. Due to him being a high risk of not qualifying, we didn't give him an NLI to sign, but promised to save him a spot to sign him if/when he qualified. (We did the same with Jordan Davis.) UGA was willing to risk losing the signing spot, perhaps for the optics of flipping him and a higher ranked class. So Joseph signed an NLI with UGA, but as a nonqualifier, he's not bound by that NLI.

Supposedly, McKinley Jackson is a HUGE priority for the staff. Sounds like he's the #1 DL left on the board.
Bagman Garner is going to be a factor, $o that doe$n't give the warm fizzie$.

Yep. And there's enough targets in play and other factors, such as position priorities, number of spots, possible attrition, etc., about all I can say for now about DLs and WRs we're likely to add is that it's murky.

Speaking of DL, Hank (BOL) talks like Bama wants to flip Jamil Burroughs from UGA and says he's a take. What have you heard about him?

Georgia people have been saying Burroughs will “decommit” for a while now. Kind of like our Javier Morton situation.

Yep. Burroughs has some bad weight and his ranking is pretty low. So some think he's just being recruited as a back up option. But people thought that too when Hank kept mentioning Seth McLaughlin and Xavier Hill as potential commits. So, with Hank saying he's a take, I'm curious what Bama3714 has heard on Bama's interest in him.

I've heard next to nothing on Burroughs. Really nothing that hasn't been posted here.

National Evaluation Notes: Five-Stars shine in Week Zero
quote:
Week zero of high school football saw several top teams and prospects take part in national showcase games, most of which were televised. These games can provide an interesting backdrop for evaluation purposes given the elevated stage and level of competition this early in the season.
By the same token, it’s important to view everything in the proper context. It’s a long season and it can be easy to get excited and overreact to a small one game sample. Please note that this is not a comprehensive recap of all high school games nationally, but simply evaluation notes that came across our desk in real time. Many states did not play last week and begin their season on Friday.

New Five-stars shine
The top three showings may have come from three of 247Sports’ newly-minted five-star prospects: quarterback Bryce Young, tight end Arik Gilbert and linebacker Trenton Simpson. Young (No. 10), Simpson (No. 14) and Gilbert (No.16) accounted for half of the new five-stars in July’s Top247 release. The trio backed up their elite billing in a big way over the weekend. It’s one game, but should they continue this level of play, it’s entirely possible we didn’t go high enough on their rankings.

Bryce Young was stellar in a blowout win over No. 9 ranked Corona (Calif.) Centennial. The USC pledge was 19-26 for 191 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Young made an array of impressive small-window throws and was in complete control of the game from its onset. National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins called the game and noticed Young’s progression in key areas.
Biggins: “The game has really slowed down for Young and he looks so composed and in control of the Mater Dei offense. There were times he patiently sat in the pocket, waited for a secondary receiver to get open and connected where a year ago, he might have ran from the pocket early to create something. He’s still able to elude defenders but his ability to throw from the pocket with zip and accuracy to all three levels has really improved. His release has tightened, arm strength has improved and he’s creating a strong debate to be rated the top signal caller in the country this year.”

Arik Gilbert and his nationally-ranked Marietta squad faced off against defending state champion Rome (Ga.) in the Corky Kell Classic on Thursday. The 6-foot-5, 253-pounder lined up at receiver and was a dominant mismatch, catching nine balls for 205 yards and two scores. Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong came away impressed with Gilbert’s night and felt he more than backed up his status as a highly coveted prospect.
Wiltfong: “Marietta pulled away early behind Gilbert and Tennessee quarterback commit Harrison Bailey. On the 18-yard line, Gilbert ran a terrific route to get open and then made a phenomenal one-handed grab in the end zone to put his team up two scores in the first. He had another big catch and run later in the game flying downfield like a freight train for a chunk of yardage.
“Two SEC schools have told me that Arik Gilbert is the No. 1 overall prospect on their board and it was easy to see why on Friday night in Marietta’s season opener as the 6-foot-5, 253-pound freak show had his way with a Rome team that is always among the best and most well coached teams in the Peach State. Gilbert shredded them with nine receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns, already looking like a junior in college ready to declare for the NFL Draft a year early. From the route running, to the terrific ball skills, to the toughness working the middle of the field to the ferocious after the catch ability, Gilbert showed why he is one of the biggest no-brainers in this 2020 class, handing a Rome squad their first loss at home since 2015 in the process.”

Wideouts make a splash
Georgia pledge Marcus Rosemy and Alabama commit Thaiu Jones-Bell each had big touchdowns in a victory. Rosemy made a fantastic juggling one-handed grab on a 71-yard catch and run against nationally-ranked De La Salle (Calif.). The catch was No. 2 on Sports Center’s top plays of the day. Jones-Bell hit paydirt on a 74-yard deep touchdown reception, where he was able to get vertical on the Deerfield Beach (Fla.) defense. He added another score on a 15-yard catch to seal the 24-12 win and finished with four receptions for 145 yards.

Additional Notes
Though he wasn’t in a national showcase game, Alabama linebacker commit Quandarrius Robinson had a showing of note. We’re very interested to see how Robinson fares as a senior–2018 was his first year playing on the edge after converting from safety. A 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, Robinson has unique athleticism and could be primed to take the next step as a football player with another year of experience playing in the box. If week zero was any indication, Robinson appears to be well on the way as he recorded 10 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 pass breakups and a forced fumble/recovery against Fairfield (Ala.). The Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin standout wreaked havoc as a defensive end, showing a quick first step and used his length to finish plays in the backfield. He drew double teams as the game progressed, but continued to consistently disrupt and showed a nice spin move at one point. Robinson showed the ability to drop and play in space over the camp circuit and adding a high-level pass rush to his arsenal would make him one of the more versatile defenders of the 2020 cycle.
