While Ricks said he remains solid in his commitment to the Tigers, he has said from day one his plan was to take all five of his visits. He currently has two dates locked in.

“I’m going to Ohio State (Nov. 22),” Ricks said. “Ohio State was my No. 2 choice behind LSU and honestly if Urban Meyer never left, I probably would have committed there. It was really close and they’re still recruiting me really hard. I hear from coach Hafley (DC) almost every day so I’m looking forward to getting out there.

“Im also going to visit USC on (Nov. 2) for the Oregon game. I talk to that staff all the time as well and just heard from coach Burns (DB coach) about 30 minutes ago. Coach Helton hits me up and of course I talk to Chris Hawkins (GA) all the time, he’s like family to me.”

Alabama is another school Ricks will visit.

“I want to take an unofficial and an official visit there,” Ricks said. “I’ve never been before but I’ve known coach Sark (Sarkisian) since I was six or seven years old. Just like with coach Orgeron, I met coach Sark when I was young at the USC camps so we have a really good relationship.

“Coach Saban said he sees me as a Minkah Fitzpatrick type that he can move around and play some corner, nickel and safety. I’m not sure when my official will be, I have to decide on what game works best for my schedule but like I said, I want to visit a couple of times.”

Ricks said LSU will definitely get an official visit and the final one is still open.“

“I’m looking at Miami and Florida,” Ricks said. “I’m just going to play it out and see on that last one but I definitely want to take a 5th visit. Right now, my commitment is still solid, I mean I just spent two weeks out there in Hammond and that feels like home for me.

“At the same time, you have to take your trips just in case something happens. For me not to go to LSU, it would have to take something drastic like a coaching change for me to look elsewhere and you never know what can happen so the trips are important to me.”

I don't have a good feeling about the Roy kid announcing his commitment this month. He lives in Baton Rouge and him announcing his decision before the season makes me think he'll commit to LSU. If the kid commits to Bama (or anyone but LSU) and is going to be in Baton Rouge during football season that can put increased local pressure on him.

If he commits to Bama they will disrespect him so much that it will turn him off.

Top performers from Day 2 of The Opening Finals (247Sports | video | segments)
quote:

FRISCO, TX — There’s one day left of Opening Finals and Elite 11 competition here in Texas, and while we’re starting to have a clear idea of a pecking order entering Wednesday’s finale, there’s still some room for surprises — and we got plenty of them on Tuesday. As far as I can remember, 247Sports is naming an underclassman as an Alpha Dog for the day. A fringe Top247 prospect without much pre-Opening buzz was one of the day’s best. It was Walker Parks, not Bryan Bresee, who had the best day of a Clemson trenchman — largely because of his dominant work against Bresee, the No. 1 player in our Top247 rankings.

But there are still plenty of familiar names to crack Tuesday’s top performers. Let’s get started. Note: We've ranked the quarterbacks in a separate article, so stay tuned for that.

TOP PERFORMERS

4. Arik Gilbert

In a camp that is bursting at the seams with elite tight ends, Gilbert emerged by the end of the day as the jumbo athlete that was the toughest matchup. Among all the tight ends, he was the most fluid from a movement standpoint. He also showed really good hands. He had perhaps the catch of the day with a one-handed snag over the middle but he was also able to just be big and make contested grabs even deep down the field with defenders hanging on him. Gilbert finished the day with 13 catches and two touchdowns by our count.

How the QBs ranked Tuesday at the Elite 11 Finals (247Sports | video | segments)
quote:

FRISCO, TX — Tuesday's action at the Elite 11 Finals — building towards the conclusion of 7on7 play on Wednesday — saw a further separation between the top arms in the class of 2020. The last few days have seen CJ Stroud and Bryce Young duke it out for the top spot, with contenders like Haynes King, Hudson Card and Carson Beck nipping at their heels.

Here's how we ranked the signal-callers on Tuesday.

2. Bryce Young - The 247Sports Composite five-star signal caller had arguably the best game of all quarterbacks during pool play, going 18-22 for 5 touchdowns, making an array of highly impressive throws. Throwing to what is easily the most talented group of skill players in the tournament, Young made easy work of the opposing Team Guap defense, surgically moving the ball vertically with touchdowns to Julian Fleming, Michael Mayer, Demond Demas, Gee Scott Jr. and EJ Smith. The throw to Smith in particular was a beautiful deep ball with nice arc and perfect placement. Young impressed us with his ability to generate velocity on his ball with ease via core strength and hip torque. Young cooled off a bit during group play, going three and out on two drives with five-star wide receiver Julian Fleming on the bench.

Rankings Roundtable: Prospects on the cusp of a fifth star (247Sports | video | segments)
quote:

FRISCO, TX — Monday marked the conclusion of Day 1 of The Opening Finals, as well as the continuation of a weeklong Elite 11 Finals showcased that’s helped to give us a better understanding of the class of 2020’s elite quarterback prospects.

The entire five-man 247Sports Rankings Council (Barton Simmons, Greg Biggins, Brandon Huffman, Charles Power, Steve Wiltfong) sat down for a roundtable discussion Monday night to discuss a slew of players who they felt were on the verge of 5-star status.

Players discussed include: Auburn commit Trenton Simpson, Ohio State commit Gee Scott Jr., quarterbacks Haynes King and Bryce Young, members of an intriguing tight end class like Arik Gilbert and Darnell Washington, and freaky linebacker prospect Noah Sewell.

That 25-minute discussion was turned into video, which you can watch above.

"Sorry guys...Roy committed to LSU per the counter guy at Chick Fil A yesterday...I’ll try to get you better info next time." -- Post today by insider from NOLA who said "Surtain is Bama" and "Sopsher is Bama" long before anyone else had indicated Bama had much chance at them and recently said "Roy is Bama."

He's making fun of this Geaux247 poster: "A buddy of mine works at the new Chick fil a on Burbank and yesterday Major and Roy came into the store. My buddy didn't know who either of them were but later his coworker told him their names were Major and Roy and that Major was an LSU commit and that Major said Roy had just committed to LSU that day too!!"

Eta: I'll keep checking and see if our NOLA insider says anything else about Roy.

Eta: "So his announcement that he is deciding July 26th doesn't impact your prediction at all?"

"NONE!!!" - NOLA insider

Yep. Jaqueline Roy is a stud. He could end up ranked as a 5-star.

If Bama keeps getting the best recruits out of La. again this year, LSU fans are going to start jumping off bridges. Not sure how much more they can handle.

Myles Murphy will announce his commitment on Monday July 8 at his school. He has picked up 5 CBs to UNC since Monday -- from 2 UNC mods, 1 OM mod, Brian Dohn and Steve Wiltfong. He has 6 CBs to USCe and 5 to UNC.

Bama's staff likes Murphy a lot. He visited Bama on April 6 and took an official visit to Bama on June 14. In Murphy's post-visit remarks, his interest in Bama sounded pretty strong; however, both of those schools are much closer to home.

UNC is about 45 from him. As mentioned with D Evans Brown trying to close down the state. UNC faithful feel good about landing. Murphy, Evans, and 3 more 4 stars from the Charlotte area. One a WR Mohammad currently committed to aTm but Brown got one of his team mates already who everyone had pegged to VT. The problem with Murphy is a friend and team mate of his is currently committed to USC as to why many think he may end up there.

The best part of Brown being back at UNC is Clemson can no longer just reach in and pluck who they want like they have the past few years.

Clemson didn't offer Myles Murphy from NC. Clemson reached in and plucked another Myles Murphy, who's also a DE (5-star), from Georgia. Clemson already has commitments from 3 5-star DLs plus a high 4-star and is a strong contender for 5-star DL Jordan Burch.
