booo why so early?
I'm pissed and baffled. I won't be able to see it because that was the only time I have to work Saturday.
I mean you have Buffalo-UK, Loyola-UT, Rhode Island-Duke, and Seton Hall-Kansas scheduled for that day and we somehow get the early game? You have 2 of the best players remaining (definitely the best PGs) going head-to-head and they give it the worst time slot? That makes no sense. I had no worries about missing it until they posted it.

Not sure what you mean. If you're saying it's because of our seeding, there are 2 teams playing that day that didn't get an at-large bid. If you're saying it's somehow a Perk for Villanova to play early (not sure how), Kansas is playing at 7:10 pm.

the 5 teams we lost to late are probably better than us.

maybe they'll come out flat in the morning. We played 3 noon games last week. Have they played any recently?

Maybe not really a true perk but becomes one due to TV schedule and all of these "pods" they use now.
What time did Kansas play yesterday? Look at timing and it likely gives higher seeds a little more down time because they get the earlier game. We played the 8/9 game at 8:20 last night and will have the shorter turn around as opposed to 'Nova that gets 2 1/2- 3 hours more time to recover.

I remember falling asleep at the beginning of that game. I was going to South Alabama at the time. I woke up with 2 minutes to go and was like, "Holy Shite! Bama is going to win"

I didn't know anything about Avery's relationship with Buzz Williams and how much they talk about things. Pretty interesting.

My god man, we’re less than 12 hours removed from winning our first tournament game in 12 years and you’re already placing blame for a loss that you’re forecasting is going to happen tomorrow?
You’re complaining that we should won 2 of those 5 games while also complaining that we didn’t get a worse seed. I mean wtf.
Can everybody just agree to shut the frick up about the 5 game losing streak, who’s fault it was, whether you think Avery should be fired, etc?
Save all that bullshite for the offseason, we will have plenty of time to discuss all that.
Let’s talk about how much fun that game was last night and look forward to an opportunity to play against and beat one of the elite teams in the country

Man, that 3 point shot by Pettway late in that game was so clutch. I thought for sure we were going to let it slip away, then BOOm!, huge 3.
I do kinda agree we got kind of screwed with the short turnaround to tomorrow's game, especially after such a physical game last night. But them's the breaks sometimes. Just gotta nut up and ball out.

Honestly, the biggest problem with this thread and board is people make a big claim (Avery should be fired, Avery is good and our players are young, whatever) and then decide they have to squat on that take for eternity. Hey everyone, sometimes things change. Sometimes you say stupid things. Sometimes you are just wrong.
We all do it. But damn, we don't have to spend every waking hour (even when the general mood is happy) re-litigating whatever hot take you had 3 weeks ago probably in anger. It's ok to say "I'm not sure about him going forward but that was great".
Then on the flip side you have people who want to spend the next 24 hours after a big win as some sort of "call out the haters" police. I said some emotionally charged things during the 5 game losing streak. They were probably wrong and stupid. I'm not 100% convinced that we are in the greatest hands ever going forward, but I think that the SECT/NCAAT has been very impressive in terms of Avery instilling mental toughness in this program. It's a big step. Doesn't mean we won't collapse next year and have to start talking about the state of things again. That's the way the frickin world works.
I mean damn, let's just be happy and pumped.

The problem is that they are too damn bipolar. When they play their best they are, imo, a top 10 team. When they play shitty they couldn't beat Radford. Avery has shown the potential in the big wins and I choose to go off of that, the best we can be. I think he has figured it out honestly with the adjustments in the lineups and minutes

They both talked about it a lot in their pre-game press conference on site and then Avery brought it up again post-game.
I don't know the exact connection, but apparently Avery had a lot of dialogue with Buzz about general NBA to college transition stuff.
Buzz Williams on Avery Johnson : 1:09 mark, Avery on Buzz 2:20 mark

"Coach is one of my heroes. I love coach.....Upon his arrival into college basketball, for whatever reason, I think we've probably privately spoken more than anybody thought. I think that when he got to Alabama, the state of the program and what he's been able to do in his 3 years. I don't know if you could have done any better. The coaches he has hired, what he has done at Alabama. Not that Coach Saban has done anything but help that, I just think he's done a fabulous job. He's always been really kind to my two boys. He's one of my hero's." - Buzz on Avery
Avery Johnson on Buzz Williams
quote:
“First of all, we want to congratulate Coach Buzz (Williams) and Virginia Tech on an outstanding season. Those guys are terrific on the court and off the court. We really have a lot of respect not just for their basketball team, but their basketball program in general. He preaches a lot about character and competitive spirit -- a lot of the same things we preach about. He’s a guy that I consider a friend. He’s been very helpful to me in my transition to college. So, I want to just congratulate him and his team." - Avery on Buzz

Was just looking at the box score from last night. It is a thing of beauty with the exception of two things. Teams turnovers and Braxton Key's entire line (17 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 TO, 4 fouls - ouch).
Can Key turn it around? I honestly don't even see the potential any more. It's like he has actually lost athleticism and skill over the last year. Maybe he just doesn't know how he fits into this Bama team and the mental part is impacting the physical part? His minutes were limited to 17 last night and, frankly, I don't know if the team can afford to play him more than that. He is just a body right now. Unlike Petty or Ingram, who have some bad games but still show up and help the team (sometimes big like Petty last night), I can't really remember a game where Key has really helped the team win. I like him and it would be incredible if he someone found his groove and was a big contributor against Nova but I'm thinking his minutes may be better served going somewhere else.
