Why do people keep bagging on Reese? I think he's played better than most of us expected. He's been better than Giddens, who, at the start of the season, I thought was going to be a beast.

There is some serious venom towards freshmen who are giving us minutes that quite frankly nobody (based on the discussions in the pre-season) expected to be giving us much in terms of minutes.

Really? Ingram was easily one of our best players.

I mean 22 pts on 4-7 shooting and 13-17 from the line + 9 boards. What else did y'all want? He had a better game than Sexton.

Sexton was wildly inefficient until the final part of the game.

All Ingram did was his patent move of driving, getting contact, falling and tossing the ball up towards the rim. I did appreciate his effort on the boards though. He made some bad, bad passes, but so did Herb, Sexton and Petty. He played okay and his FT shooting was clutch. He is still Mr. Mediocre to me though

I'm not gonna say he's better than Giddens yet

I don't necessarily think he IS better than Giddens, but to this point I do think he's PLAYED better than Giddens.

Where is the problem here? That's his role now (which is his best role) and he's really good at it. He splits zones and traps better than anybody we've had in a long time.

It's exactly what I was hoping he'd do with more offensive options around him to loosen things up.

I don't care how he scores as long as he scores. Getting fouled is a great skill, and it's honestly something Collin could do a better at.

I just noticed this on KenPom but Collin is currently #7 on his Player of the Year Standings (every player has an overall kPOY number based on a formula and his is #7 nationally).

He is the #3 Freshman right now behind Trae Young of Oklahoma and Marvin Bagley from Duke.

Either way, better than losing

Only thing that matters. We've had some games like this in the past with Avery. Jacksonville State in his first year comes to mind. I think when the competition presents itself, we'll play up to it.

Know that's not a in-depth post, but that's how I see it. I think we can beat Rhode Island. We just have to start playing better on D and start boxing out.

He's soft and other than the Memphis game hasnt shot well. He also got out-hustled for multiple rebounds last night even though he did get his fair share.

Reese isnt better than Giddens but Galin Smith IS. Galin has really been impressive so far.

Read the game thread, and it sounds like everyone dislikes Ingram

I went to the game last night so I read the in game thread once I got home. That thread was pretty ugly. It didn't age well at all .

Dazon came up pretty big for us down the stretch last night. Hall has been very impressive, and Sexton was able to finish strong. LaT isn't UTA, but it's still a good win. We would have lost this game in the past.

This is not a problem, but physically Ingram has a crap ton of upside potential. I just can't understand why he can't or won't tap into it. A guy with his size should never fall as many times as he does while driving to the basket. He's better due to Collin's presence, but the kid has more potential and everyone can see it.

Probably would have been worse if I posted in it.

I mean they played pretty bad last night for the first 10 minutes of both halves. The great thing about it is that they know how to win going down the stretch and that is so refreshing. I think we all knew that when we cut it to three with 5 minutes to go that we would pull it out.

Yeah, even though they trailed the whole game, I always thought they'd come back and win. I admit, I started to get worried sometime around the 6 minute mark. I hope they can start playing well for the whole game, but it's nice to see them finishing well.

So what’s the record for most charges taken in a season and by how many is Herbert going to break it?

lol what? He had 22 and 9. 13/17 from the line. Personally I'm a huge fan of a 6'5 guard driving the lane and drawing fouls if he's gonna shoot 13/17.
I think he's shot something like 55% on the year.. been in double digits in 5 of 7 games, 2 times he's had 20+. He's not the most talented guy on our team but he's reliable, and that's going to be so critical for us down the stretch.

Somewhat shifting my focus, on this team we have freshmen playing like freshmen (sans Collin), and veterans starting to do what veterans do (Hall and Ingram), and this team finishes games very strongly. The freshmen keep improving, and the veterans will soon add Key, our SOS is stupid good and we are winning games right now against senior-laden teams as we enter this critical stretch.
So can someone tell me what's wrong with this team? Okay Petty had a bad game and Reese made some rough passes (as did some other guys). So Ingram and Sexton drove to the bucket constantly and won the game at the FT line. We won the game.... at the Free Throw line. Let's repeat that in our heads a few times while we reflect on the last decade of AlabamaMBB.

Dazon is ELITE at drawing contact. That is a skill. He's 8th in the country in FT Rate per KenPom and was 23rd in the country last year (Free throw rate: This is FTA/FGA). He is 66th in the country in Fouls Draw per 40 minutes (7.2). Those are really big offensive assets.

If he shoots them the way he did last night then he is going to be a huge part of the offense going forward.

When Dazon is agressive and takes charge he is Elite and as good as anyone. When he gets passive it drives me fricking nuts.

Agree - if Dazon is passive and settling for jumpers he is not a good offensive player. That's not his game.

Ingram isn't a jump shooter but he is very good at driving the lane. He's a lefty. He's got that euro step and a strong handle.

He's just got to learn to be a more consistent shooter at the line and from 3. If he can be really good at FTs and decent at 3s, he'll be an excellent player.
