Pretty sure you won't

Maybe, but USC would have easily gotten in had they beaten OU, SMU, or Santa Clara. Getting swept by UCLA didn't help either.

Nova is so efficient offensively, but they've been lit up defensively more this year than in the past. Just never know anything this time of year...That's what makes the tournament special.

Our only shot to beat Nova is John Petty....and we would still probably have to have them play one of their worst games

I think we'd need John and Donta to both come up large. Heard Kira Lewis say this weekend he loves Alabama in an interview. Not surprising but cool to hear. btw I saw or heard awhile back that national media and networks tried to interview and do stories on Sexton all year, but he declined . Speaks about him as a person and just blows any isolated theories people have put out on Twitter about him. I appreciate what he has brought to the program even for one year...We needed to have a player of his profile and we can get more of them in the coming years. Vitale was raving about him the other day, on and off the court ..His grades , way he carries himself etc. Dickie V can be annoying but it was nice that he put that out there.

Ya, this just isn't true man
They're slightly worse defensively this year on average, but it is across all games. The frequency of being "lit up" hasn't changed.

Ya, I'm not saying they are unbeatable. I'm just pointing out the idea that Villanova is somehow a "good matchup" for Bama is just crazy talk. They are the type of team where an opponent's best player can have their best game of the season and Nova still wins by 10 or 20+ points... because it happens all the time
For Bama to win this game, it has to be more than jsut Sexton exploding. They need Petty, Herb and everyone really to play their best game fo the year. Literally, having Bama's 2nd best offensive performance of the year is only giving you a chance if Nova shows up

Oh I don't necessarily buy that we would match up well with Villanova, I think we could stand up with them if Sexton, petty, hall, Ingram or key all play well. It would come down to Bama shooting well and controlling tempo as well as defending . Even that might not be enough though ...Just not gonna be that crazy to say we'd win but I don't think we'd back down. Bama went 9-9 against the tourney field so stranger things could happen.

I think you're taking "good matchup" as "we should beat them". They're a good matchup (in a 1-seed vs 9-seed sense) in that they are pretty bad on the offensive boards and they aren't a good defensive team that shuts down the paint.
As far as 1-seed vs 9-seed matchups go, it's a pretty solid matchup for us. Looking at the 1 or 2 seeds that we were bound to matchup with in the 2nd round, I would've rather played Xavier and Cincy. That's about it.

Yeah ‘Nova isn’t a good matchup for anyone unless your name is UVA, Michigan State or Xavier. As I stated earlier, they are fundamentally sound, well coached, and devastatingly effective. They aren’t the most athletically talented team which shows up in their offensive board numbers but that’s their only glaring weakness. A very good team can probably out-athlete them and beat them if they play good basketball but you aren’t going to want to match up with them in an old-fashioned half court game or they will beat your arse. And you won’t even realize how badly until you look up at the scoreboard and find yourself down by 20.

So I just realized that I’m not seeing Tevin Mack in any celebration photos, even posed photos of the entire team and coaches. Anyone know why?

No question Sexton has done A LOT for Bama B-BALL from a athletic standpoint but also for exposure, recruiting, etc plus he is a Great kid also. Don’t find too many with his skills and future ahead of him with his attitude towards basketball , teammates AND academics. Total package. He has shown recruits that it’s OK TO PICK BAMA

Seriously considered a Friday flight to Pittsburgh for the 2nd round game if we won, but it seems to be the only airport in the Eastern US where a week of flight from Atlanta is $500.
WTF Pittsburgh

quote:His biggest problem inside is his weight and strength. Most all post men are bigger and stronger than Hall and literally lean on and push him off his spot. His quickness is his strength inside.
He infrequently gets position to merit an entry pass because he doesn't post up well.
I'm not going to argue that Hall is solid at finishing when he is has good position, he just isn't great at getting into position.

Back to my original point, Hall doesn't feast inside on smaller teams by posting up
Smaller, more athletic guys with low center of gravity hold up well. Hall does better against tall lanky post players and it shows in his stats
I like Hall. This was only interested as a recognition of ideal matchup for him
