What a draw that would be.
Only thing more Bama basketball than that scenario might be a play in game vs. Texas A&M now.

I would hope they would try and keep conference teams away from each other that early.

So frick Auburn today.
I just want what's best for Bama, for y'all to get blown out in an embarrassing way so you can fire Avery. What's wrong with that?
Seriously though, good luck. I'll do what I did last game and be a little more invisible today

Id give Avery another year personally, but he'd have to show clear development on the roster. If he can't make the tournament next year, that's a problem

Guys, screw all this play in game, bubble watch, last 4 in/out discussion. Let's go kick Auburn's arse today and then win the whole damn thing. We bought the plane tickets, we may as well stay a while.
If I'm Avery that's what I'm selling to my team right now.

Way too invested in the game today. Probably going to go poorly.

Yeah with a noon tip, I've been pondering all morning where I can go for lunch and watch the first half, but then afraid the game will give me indigestion.

Yeah, I'm not sure how Nick King's great season points to a lack of development when he was sick the entire season he was eligible here. People who watched practices during Retin's breakout season said that Nick King was our best player in practice. If anything it points to his knack of finding underrated talent.
There's real concern surrounding Avery's ability as a collegiate coach, but that one doesn't make much sense to me.

I know a lot of people have grumbled about Avery's buyout, but just know that is isn't even remotely as bad as some other coaches
-Kevin Stallings buyout is estimated to be $9.4 million if they don't have a reduced buyout negotiated
-Tubby Smith buyout estimated to be $10mil
Neither guy has proven success in the past decade to merit that type of buyout

Gene you’re good people and always welcome here. You tell it like it is even though some don’t want to hear it.
Bama is their own worst enemy in basketball. Neither program has been stellar but Bama used to own this state in hoops and Auburn was where promising young coaches went to kill their careers. With the ineptness in the programs surrounding us historically we had our pick of kids in Georgia and Alabama and Mississippi. We could dip into a strong Juco league in the Florida panhandle to plug holes in classes, both men and women.
What has changed? The formula hasn’t. UGA still sucks, Ole Miss always does, Auburn and State have gotten better but not to the point we can’t still get our guys. The problem is us. Starting with Gottfried, we’ve had a succession of bad hires and bad luck that has this program on a historically bad run. Hopefully we’ve bottomed out and are cycling back up.
Avery bought himself another year yesterday or maybe Collin bought it for him. Either way, there’s one more year left in the Avery experiment. He’d better take a quantum leap next season or it’s time to move on to continue building this program back to respectability. I don’t want us to sit here again with our thumb up our arse afraid to fire a coach because we’re scared of the hiring process. (Thanks Battle!) I want to see us back to being the predominant basketball program in the aforementioned states and a perennial tournament team where the Sweet Sixteen is expected and higher finishes are the goal.
That’s how it’s been for a lot of the last 50 years and it should be again.

Serious question and I’m not predicting anything I’m just speculating. Let’s say chalk holds today and we lose and then despite all the pundits chatter, we get left out of the Dance. Does that change your stance on Avery returning in 2018-19?
Again, I know he’s here next year regardless, I’m just curious if that would change anyone’s opinion on him.

Hobbs was a terrible hire. Gottfriend was a fantastic hire. He did good things the first half of his tenure. He got complacent and arrogant though and we probably held onto him a couple of years too long. Still, he's arguably the best hire we've made since Sanderson was fired.

No he didn't. He was NEVER in jeopardy of not being here next season.

You want to have a bad coaching search process? Fire a guy after just 3 seasons when he's shown improvement each year. You're not going to attract any good coaches with that lack of commitment to them, or if you do they stay one or two seasons until something better comes along.

I'll be honest - I wouldn't object if it happened but I wouldn't be pushing for it.
If we had another close but no cigar year next year I'd be pushing for it.
