What do you guys think about Eric Musselman?
NBA background, but also has evolved and worked his way up through the asst coach ranks.
At Nevada - after taking over a team that went 9-22 in the previous season:
2015–16: 24–14 (10–8) CBI Champions
2016–17: 28–7 (14–4) NCAA First Round
2017–18: 26–5 (15–2)
Total: 78–26 (.750) 39–14 (.736)

Yeah, George, you're right. But I can't ever remember any team being on such a skid to finish out the year making the tourney. The committee used to weigh your final 5 or 10 games pretty heavily. Those teams you listed almost all were on a roll and/or looking like a tourney team in late Feb/early March. This team looks like they are struggling to stay out of the cellar in the local church league.

Good record, but I haven't watched enough Nevada basketball to really know. Mid-major guys are always hit or miss. Look at Smart at Texas. I don't think you could hardly find a better resume than his at VCU, and he's been mediocre at Texas so far.

And yet we can beat aTm and Auburn on a neutral court. I’m not saying we will but they’re two teams we have wins against and we could easily be 3-1 against both.

We'll need some help to get in with 18. We need every league with at large teams to have have one of those at large teams get the automatic bid. We also need bubble teams to do poorly in their respective conference tournaments.

I just don't believe this team can beat anybody at this point. They are dragging a lot of stuff up and down the court as of today. Perhaps Boz needs to do some inside work ovah at the BB area.

He looks good on paper. So did Mark Fox also of Nevada before Georgia hired him. Ask them if they are happy now. Look, any mid-major coach is something of a gamble. You don't know if they can replicate their success at a higher level of play. And can they re-establish recruiting relationships outside of the region they are in. I'd say basketball more than any sport is a crap shoot when hiring coaches. I can't tell you why but it's amazing how many can't miss hires do. But what we've got ain't working.
If I'm Greg Byrne, who I have a lot of faith in to make a good hire, I go after a guy who's winning at a P5 school that's not in the upper tier of P5 like a Buzz Williams at Va Tech or Bryce Drew at Vandy or at a high mid-major like the American or CUSA. Hell, I'd make Howland tell me no if I didn't get my first couple of choices. Mick Cronin at Cincy, Mack at Xavier would be 2 I'd look hard at as well as Hurley at URI. Basketball coaches would love me because at the very least, schools would have to break out the checkbook to keep a guy they wanted. I think if we put Avery money out there for some of these guys, we'd get one.

I wouldn't be against taking him. Always worry about taking guys with less than 5 years of HCing experience.

Lunardi has us in the Last 4 in this morning, Probably means win Thursday and we’re in, lose and we’re out
I assume we don't need any Cinderellas winning a conference tournament and stealing a bid from us.

Yea - would be nice to see BYU beat St Marys tonight, though. Then lose to Gonzaga.

I think where Lunardi has us now would be great considering how much we've choked. UCLA in Dayton, then TCU, then Michigan or possibly Bucknell.

Guys we have to win TWO consecutive games just to get into the dance.

BTW, call me a curmudgeon but I will not give Avery credit for making the dance if it's just an appearance in Dayton.
That's like getting credit for becoming bowl eligible when you have 5 wins and the NCAA gives you a waiver to play in a bowl game.

I don't think we do

If Avery gets us in the tourney, as bad as we’ve been lately, you still have to give him credit. He scheduled about as tough and you could and would’ve won enough games to get in even if it’s a play-in. That’s a step in the right direction for our program. WE JUST NEED TO GET IN

Hey winning national titles every year is fun but the chase for six wins and bowl eligibility makes me appreciate it that much more. At this stage the NIT is Shreveport and Dayton is the Sugar Bowl.

Sorry, I won't give him kudos for a good season if we get bounced in the play-in game. Especially since it is on the heels of a major collapse to end the season. Every single fan of Alabama basketball expected more from this season than that and it isn't a sign of an upward trajectory. Technically, the play-in game is part of the NCAA tournament but if we're getting technical, I am also the 2006 Time Magazine Person of the Year.

I guess I was thinking that if we beat A&M we will have to play in a play-in game for an 11 seed spot. Is there another way we get in?

Danny Hurley would be interesting. I really wanted Bobby to get a look last time around. Seems like it has worked out ok for ASU.
