I mean, I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty down in the dumps sad/mad. However, there are more than enough facts that tell the story of this program and don't require exaggerating the past to help the argument. That's not fair to the kids on those teams and isn't fair to Avery.

Avery didn't inherit a Howland level mess, but he inherited a terrible basketball roster. Avery has massive issues, but lets not rewrite history. He did a great job with his 1st team. GREAT. He did a decent job last year. He's been awful this year.

Which is eerily similar to Avery’s nba Career. We know where this is headed, let’s not prolong the pain.

What really sucks is with the way this season is ending, there will be zero excitement for next year. Lets say we fire Avery and hire someone else. Even then everyone will be really gunshy about getting excited because of the feeling that the inevitable collapse will occur.

People were really excited about this team coming into this season and they had tangible reasons to back up that hype. In the end, it is ending like every other promising season we've had in the last decade. Going forward, a lot of fans are going to be "Show-me" when it comes to buying into the program.

Yep - it's pretty devastating.

Not necessarily. If Byrne managed to make a splash hire, let’s say Billy D got tired of OKC and wanted to come back to college, the fan base would be right back.

That’s not to say Grant left us as bad off as Barbee left them but it does take time, even with top recruits.

I mean, In 2015-16, Auburn was forced to play walkons for 10+ minutes in about ~15 games of SEC play + Big12 challenge

Not only did Barbee hand over nothing (only 1 SR starter), Bruce Pearl couldn't recruit year 1 or in YR2 Fall NSD. He couldn't recruit kids + wasn't given a roster

Wednesday in the SEC tournament, under .500 in the SEC every year and no where near the bubble.

We were in bubble conversation until the collapse at the end of last season that lines up nicely with losing both PF Danjel Purifoy + backup PF Horace Spencer

Maybe Avery knew this team was gonna suck and knew he couldn’t coach and that’s why he scheduled so strong. He thought he could make the tourney by winning around 18 games. He won 18 and 19 the first 2 years and probably thought he could do it this year

I do think the talent between the two teams is pretty close this year. We're more talented, but not extremely more talented.

I'd say MSU has the talent to win, but they aren't close to the talent that Bama has at the top end

Figured comparing recruiting differences makes most sense since ~3* stud eval/development should be a credit for Avery/Howland

Bama

Top 25- 1
Top 26-75- 3 (includes Giddens)
Top 76-150- 3

MSU
Top 25- 1
Top 26-75- 1
Top 76-150- 6

yes you can.... I can tell you never played the game.

I have played the game. Not at college level, but I've been on teams. So you are making assumptions about me that validates my belief that you don't know shite.

You can't compare college kids to prof players. The motivations are different. Pro players are adults and are doing a job. College kids aren't as mature and they aren't getting paid.

So we’ve lost 4 straight and the players look like they don’t even want to be out there.....this is all while we have an NCAA tourney bid on the line. I can understand looking like this in the NIT but my goodness.

So here’s my question:

Taking into consideration how bad we’ve looked the past 4 games........what happens if we come out and get beat by 20 at Texas A&M, then we go into the SEC tourney and get beat the first round by 20? With this team, that’s very possible. That would be six straight losses to end the season with most of them being blowouts, the players looking disinterested, and another NCAA tourney bid thrown out the window. Is Avery fired then?

No to firing AJ at this point. He deserves another year or two.

I am as disappointed as every one else but flipping coaches every couple of years isn't the answer.

Promising us that “Duke is the standard”, telling us “year 3 is the year”, and then playing like garbage isn’t the answer either

I think Howland is doing a good job at msu. I also think it is MUCH harder to do at msu.

An article came out today showing the highest paid coaches in college basketball. There are 351 teams. 68 make the tourney. Looks like we’re not gonna be one of them. But guess what number Avery is on the highest paid coaches list?

15th...

I think we'd be completely justified in firing Avery given the complete collapse plays out like you say. We're just delaying the inevitable at that point and I'd rather bite the bullet now than waste another year. Of course I wouldn't pull the trigger unless I had a good plan for what to do afterwards and knew the temperature of the coaching market was favorable.

If we look like shite against A&M, I would be all for firing Avery and just skipping the SEC tournament. The effort has been so bad that I hate to even spend the money to go to St. Louis.

I'm thoroughly disgusted, so take everything I say with a grain of salt
