Strength of Record as a concept (not necessarily ESPN's) is a great concept and should be used in the selection process

Agree. It should be part of the equation, especially when differentiating between the teams vying for Top 4 seeds.

Like you said earlier, it's not nearly as good when evaluating bubble type teams that fall into 2 categories : (1) up and down teams with good wins and maybe some bad losses and (2) teams with huge win totals but slim to no wins over elite or even good teams.

Pretty much agree w/ everything you said. I'd change it to the below though

Definitely agree - good point. It gives you a solid list of the top 16-20 to then look at the secondary information on. Because, as you are correctly insinuating, a lot of teams end up "in the discussion" based on name or generalities like "good record in good conference".

Using a SOR metric points out teams that might just not deserve to be in that conversation at all.

Case in point, my #2 team Arizona.

They are 20-6, predicted to win the Pac12 and have name recognition so they got a #4 seed and widely predicted as #4 I think. Heck, their SOS is ~50 + their Group1 (3-3) Group 2 (6-3) looks solid enough too

The problem? Arizona has only played one top 16 seeded team + 4 other teams expected to be included in the NCAAT field.... yet they have 6 losses

There is no way a "Top 16" team should have 6 losses when playing Arizona's schedule

And dribble one off the leg.

I remember playing pickup ball at the Rec one night with a bunch of fraternity brothers in the late summer, and in walk Grizzard, Winston and Riley. This was probably 2006 or 2007? I know Riley was still actually playing at Alabama and Winston was gone.

They proceeded to join in our pickup game. It was a pretty good group by college non-athlete standards : a couple all-state kids, a bunch of good high school players and just some athletic kids. My..........gosh. All 3 of them just shot 30 footers and dunked on fast breaks. It was incredible.

Did you guys know Riley has played consistently every season in Europe since he left Alabama?

He plays in the French Tier-1 League for Le Mans this season and has started all 19 games. He's been in that league since 2011. He plays with Wilfried Yeguete (Florida) and Chris Lofton (Tennessee).

He's probably making $100K a year or so.

People don't realize just how much better these guys are, even compared to "great" rec league kids

At AU I ppayed with a couple kids who had D2 offers/ recruited walk-on at Wisconsin + Illinois. The rest of the team were typical HS all Stars

We played Tony Barbees grad assistants who played at UTEP/UK/Memphis..... We got mercy ruled in the first 10 minutes. They were purposefully trying to avoid ending the game early by shooting NBA + 3s w the 6'9 kid

Yep - sometimes it just takes a quick reminder. The other thing people don't realize, even more so in the NBA, is how big everyone is.

I still remember my first year in Atlanta going to a random mid-week game against the Pistons. We sat in some corporate seats a few rows behind the Detroit bench. Watching one of those games that low.........the floor looks like it is the size of a post-it note. There is NO space. It's insane.

That was the biggest shock I had sitting close to the floor in Coleman a few years ago. You finally see how big those guys are and how small the ball and floor look compared to them. It made me question why in the world they miss so many layups

I had a friend who used to get floor seats to Grizz game and it was absurd seeing guys like Marc Gasol and Yao Ming up close. I played at a decently high level in my high school years because I had a teaammate who ended up at UNC, so we got invited to a ton of stuff but it was nothing like the NBA guys.

Still though the most ridiculous athlete I ever played against was when Greg Hardy came back to my high school to practice with us a few times. That man was a freak.

There is nothing quite like sitting down near the floor at a NBA game, even a seemingly meaningless January regular season game.

I try to make a point to do it 2-3 times a year. A lot easier to do this year with the local product on the floor.

Latest Lunardi bracket has us as a 7 seed in the East. Charlotte pod with Duke as the 2 opposite us.

That'd be awesome and my arse would 100% be in Charlotte.

I'd rather get Texas Tech, Clemson, or Cincinnati than Duke. Houston in the first round wouldn't be too tough though.

Duke actually wouldn't be a bad draw if we made it to round 2. It would be similar to Arizona. Bagley would destroy us, but if we can limit everyone else we can keep it close.
