I don't know what Avery does, but when our team is perceived to have no shot at all, they exceed expectations and either win or drop a close on to a really good team. But for whatever reason, we lose to lesser quality teams at the worst times.

Some coaches are excellent motivators when being underdogs, but can't seem to get it done against the lesser teams. That was just piss poor all around last night. They had a 6-2 guard get 9 rebounds last night and out rebounded us 37-27.

Eff this team and Eff our HC. When you can beat OK but lose to Mizz, Ole Miss and Vandy then it is on you as a coach. The players are the same. I am ready for the buckle up experiment to be over.

I don't think the rebounding number is that big of a deal. When you shoot 18% worse from the field than your opponent, you probably are going to lose the rebounding battle. We had one more offensive board and tied 2nd chance points.

We're now #59 in KenPom, 9th in the SEC, ahead of only Mississippi State, LSU, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Fun fact, we finished #56 in KenPom last year and #55 in KenPom in Grant's last year.

So, yea.

Don’t worry, this bunch of schizoids will beat UF Saturday then turn around and lose in StarkVegas. Avery says “buckle up” because he has us on a mother fricking roller coaster ride.

235th in Turnover %
248th in 3P%
59th in FT Att to FG A
273rd in FT%

So, in summary, we turn the ball over a lot, can't make 3s but do a great job of getting to the line. However, we're bad at making free throws.

The only way this thread could be better is if we got a free Whataburger patty melt after every loss

This wouldn't surprise me at all. They lack size and like us have lost 2 straight in conference. I'm still pondering my pick. I've been on a roll picking recently.

My guess down the stretch, based on matchups and Alabama basketball voodoo, is.......

@ Florida (L)
@ Mississippi State (W)
vs Tennessee (L)
vs LSU (W)
@ Kentucky (L)
@ Auburn (L)
vs Arkansas (W)
vs Florida (W)
@ Texas A&M (L)

18-13 (9-9)

That feels about right. I have no real reason to think we win in Starkville except it just seems like a random game as we are about to crater that we win. Tennessee is way too smart and tough for us to beat at home. No chance we win @ Kentucky or @ Auburn. The last 3 are just feel at this point.

It is amazing how inconsistent he is as a coach. He puts together a beautiful, perfectly executed game plan to stop the nation's best scorer and then proceeds to shite the bed at home to a Mizzou team with no depth after putting the boys through the most grueling practice all season on Monday. WTF?!?!??!!?!?!?!? How did he play right into Mizzou's strength which is a slow, half court set on both ends of the floor? Since they have a lack of depth and we are rotating ten and we can press a little bit, why not speed the game up and wear them down?

I will say - and this doesn't excuse last night but does kind of help explain the entire flow of the season - it is not a coincidence that 3 of the streakiest teams in the league are by far the 3 youngest teams in the league : Mississippi State, Alabama, Kentucky.

Kentucky beating West Virginia then barely, luckily beating Vanderbilt at home is almost a mirror image of what we did (minus the whole they found a way to win thing). It's not acceptable, but it's what young teams do.

The problem for me is not that the game was ugly and close, it's that after the 1st half we didn't do anything different. We just kept doing the same thing over and over. We should have won that basketball game but we just allowed them to get in their comfort zone and play bully ball on the block for the entire 2nd half which then led to us having to play a total half court game on the other end. That was a travesty.

We are young... I don't see why you guys expect them to play consistent basketball. we may be able to beat top 15 teams but playing down to sub 200 teams is perfectly ok, even with their deficiencies. Avery knows what he is doing and will have our guys ready to go as the season continues to wind down.. Another 4 game win streak perhaps could be our turning point.. But even if we go 0-4.. It's cool we are young... And shouldn't expect more competitive play.

Nothing else matters.. No matter how you try to beat them up by saying "barely".

Meh, it matters in the context of this discussion. They would have lost the game if Vanderbilt hadn't literally run into a guy 50 feet from the basket with 2 seconds left giving them the luckiest 2 free throws of the season.

However, my overall point is Kentucky came out exactly like we did because like us, they are young and flaky. However, Cal found 5 guys who were playing at max effort and intensity and basically played them the entire final 12 minutes. It changed the game and allowed them to make a run and win. We came out exactly like Kentucky and then just kind of kept doing the same thing hoping it would change. And, because of that, Kentucky found a way to win their game and we did not.

I don't feel good about anything. And, I'll be damned if I plan my day around another basketball game this year. If I'm home with nothing to do, I'll watch. If not, whatever, I may catch the replay. They could still make a run, but I'm not going to spend much time on the edge of my seat waiting for it.

I couldn't have expressed my overall feeling about this program and team any better than this.

I never have taken off my NIT hat this season. I thought they might get to NYC but I have changed that to win one game and then put away the jocks and socks. I am sure the AD will give Avery year 4 but it just doesn't look good for the guy other than he can recruit. The good news is we're at where we've been for years.....no worse and at times better.

For some reason, Avery let Mizzou dictate how the game was played. He let them force us into playing 2 bigs together. I would have rather he play a smaller line up and force them to match us. With Hall and Giddens both in the game, there was just no space in the lane for anybody to drive. Anytime somebody turned the corner, there was one of our bigs and his defender standing in the way.
The offensive spacing was completely out of whack all night. We didn't push the pace often, when we did we got a quick good look. I just don't get it.
