The NCAA may be well known for taking forever on investigations into programs for cheating, etc. However, when it comes to an individual player's eligibility, they usually don't hang it in the balance for weeks on end, causing said player to miss time. The last thing they want is to say "hold on, hold on, don't play him", drag it out, guy misses 12 games and then say "he was good all along." They'd get roasted. I'd expect it won't take all that long. But I could be wrong, I'm just speculating.

Key tweeted that he'll be back in "no time." I'm reading that he'll be out a month max.

They're also saying Norris and Davis will practice next week. And I don't think Sexton is going to miss much time. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but I still think they're just being careful.
So, it's possible we could be back to 100%, or close to it, very soon.

I'm assuming a lot of writers are just putting out garbage headlines / not understanding the process right?
"Reinstate eligibility" headlines technically suggest that Sexton was officially ruled ineligible to play (implying proven wrongdoing)
Sounds like Alabama is being cautious/responsible waiting for official clearance rather than risk vacating games. This implies no wrongdoing, just compliance caution

Most eligibility issues are only publicly revealed when punishment/reinstatement occurs.
NCAA is under a spotlight and their actions will set a precedent + send a message on amateur sports moving forward. They can't make a decision until they address some major fundamental problems beyond this investigation, which may take time

I disagree with this. They are still able to evaluate individual players and determine their wrongdoing. Considering the tournament is their main source of cash, it's in their best interest to clear kids if they can find them innocent. I don't think guys like Sexton and Wiley will have to wait forever to know their fate.
That said, punishments at the institutional level will take forever to sort out, if it ever does.

Hopefully we can grind out a win vs Memphis, avoid an upset to Lipscomb, and there's no way we're losing to AAMU. Get most the roster back in time for UT Arlington.

Wasn't Cam ruled ineligible for a day a few years ago? Does that imply proven wrongdoing, or abundance of caution during investigation so as to not play a potentially ineligible player (emphasis on potentially)

If we are back at or almost back at full strength by Thanksgiving I'll be relieved.

A player are either eligible or they are not. You hold players out over "eligibility" issues because NCAA retroactively rules on eligibility
Auburn did not declare Cam Newton ineligible, the NCAA did because of an actual NCAA ruling on eligibility. Auburn won on appeal

Ya, there actually was an official NCAA decision that a Miss State booster Kenny Rogers acted as Cam Newton's "scholarship agent" which is impermissible contact w an agent
Auburn essentially won on appeal due to 1) No AU contact w/ Rogers 2) Pay4Play evidence only for MSU 3) No official agent contract or considerations to be official agent

Really need Key to: A) be healthy, and B) play up to his potential this year. Thought he should have been way more physical last year. His size, he should drive to the basket more and try to pick up fouls. Not settle for jump shots.

When I saw Key last year, he never struck me as a future "The guy" type but a great piece to a team. Key as lead scorer in 2g vs Auburn avg 17.5ppg, ~6rpg and I distinctly remember being shocked. I didn't even notice him making plays. Contrast that with Corban Collins who felt like he was making the offense run in that second game vs Auburn
Assuming ya'll get to full strength, do you really want Key to be more than a role piece offensively? I'd much rather Sexton, Petty, Dazon scoring w/ Giddens/Hall post options than relying on Key to score

So, regardless of sexton’s eligibility, we can effectively end AJ Jr.’s minutes when Key and/or Norris are back right? He’s not very good and can only play one position. I’d give Petty the backup PG spot before Avery

He's the coaches son. He's had way too many minutes since he got here and I don't see that changing anytime soon

I don't mind him playing if he never shoots a 3 again unless the shot clock is under 5
Posted on 11/7/17 at 5:13 pm to TomRollTideRitter
That's the problem I have with him

Yeah, he's really a good role player type who was forced into a bigger role last year due to lack of scoring options. I was shocked when he considered trying to jump to the nba. Hopefully we won't have to force the game through him this year.

Schaffer and Ingram were the only guys with a good 3pt percentage last year. But at 31%, Jr was just 2% behind Key and Norris. He's not a great shooter, but the other guys weren't either last year. He did have some good games though. Let's hope the young guys help our shooting this season.

I don't understand how as an undersized son of a former NBA player/coach JR doesn't have at least a decent looking shot.
I know Avery Sr wasn't some shooting wizard as a player, but even Shaqs son is a good
