I'm excited to see Cyrus in this game. Should be the first real indication of where he's at. He's been fantastic so far this season.

Granted this is MTSU; however, that coverage is tight.

That's the best I've ever seen him cover someone

Granted the ball was underthrown

Awful that we talk about highlights for our DBs against MTSU.

ETA: More I watch that .gif....it's crazy how he glides for a few yards.

Well I mean, that is perfect coverage. He's made plenty of plays like that in his career.

That thread on the SECr is where I got it from.

quote:

Tight End
O.J. Howard, Alabama, +8.7

Getting old school on us at tight end, Howard has brought a blocking presence to Alabama’s offense (+8.3) while hauling in seven passes for 105 yards through two games.

quote:

Center
Ryan Kelly, Alabama, +6.8

Alabama is averaging 7.6 yards per carry through the “A” gaps, and Kelly’s +3.6 run block grade is a big part of that. He’s also perfect in pass protection with no surrendered pressure on 73 attempts.

2-1, still in playoff contention though.

Wow. Bama is #12 in the Coaches Poll. That seems like too big of a drop, IMO, but it should make the team even hungrier.

We just have to win out and everything else will fall into place.

Practice Report from al.com

quote:

Jake Coker, who will start Saturday if he does everything right, looked good Wednesday in preparation for Louisiana Monroe.

During the limited media viewing portion of practice, Coker made multiple strong, long throws to his receivers. Arm strength has never been a problem for the Florida State transfer and Wednesday only proved that. On one throw he found Calvin Ridley, who should inherit a bigger role with Robert Foster out, perfectly in stride. Whether it's the confidence in knowing he'll be the starter against ULM or what, Coker looked and acted like the guy.

--Blake Barnett again served as the scout team quarterback in preparation for Louisiana Monroe.

--A'Shawn Robinson and Jonathan Allen predictably were the first team guys working in a joint drill between defensive linemen and linebackers. After a good selection of reps, the duo switched with Da'Shawn Hand and Dalvin Tomlinson who were part of a group working off to the side with Bo Davis. Hand stepped up with a sack against Ole Miss and worked with the second team on Wednesday.

--A scout from the Miami Dolphins was in attendance. The sidelines were filled with guests for "Summer Job Appreciation."

Sounds like Coker is getting confident. Despite the loss he played his heart out on Saturday and IMO his will to win may have "won the team". Time to put the QB battle away and just focus on winning out. Get those plays in quick and calm.

Coker showed determination. I loved it when he tucked it and ran and gained an additional 3-4 yards after being hit. Guy has heart and can make all the short-intermediate throws, but when he chooses to throw it downfield, there seems to always be a problem. Whether he under throws it, he and the receiver aren't on the same page, or he overthrows it.

He just has horrible touch. Over the course of a year, you can get a grasp of how QBs work. How they throw deep balls is an easy aspect of their game to dissect. AJ missed a ton but they seemed to always be long. He threw a high arcing ball that usually landed over everything when he missed. Sims threw a REALLY soft/high arcing deep ball that gave receivers the ability to go make plays. He was very accurate on them, but tended to miss long when he did. Both looked like they threw to a spot on the field.

Coker....Coker just launches the ball. Even on throws that don't connect, there is usually a plan or type of pass to execute. It looks like Coker just looks to the sky and launches.

I love all this decline talk. Just what this program needs to reinvigorate the entire process.

I agree. Pretty steep drop for losing to what's now the #3 team by 6.

It was too steep a drop, but that's what happens when a team is as successful for a 7 year stretch as Alabama has been. I'm about 100% sure that if Alabama wins out, people will stop hating on the loss and in turn, talk it up as an "Alabama was better and screwed up" type game. Similar to LSU 2011. It might not be fair, but the Ole Miss loss will be looked at as a positive if Alabama takes care of business.

I guess I'm blinded by Crimson Colored glasses, but I've got no problem admitting when Bama gets beat. It just seems like common sense here that Bama handed Ole Miss the win.

Rumors going around that Kiffin may be out of a job. Anyone heard as much? I don't see Saban firing someone midseason, but he and Kiffin are at odds on the QB situation, and it also sounds like the rumors about Kiffin's "off-the-field" activities at Tennessee were true and he hasn't changed much.
