With all his swings and misses, definitely not Matt Olson.
Wish Snit would place a contact hitter like Arcia in the 2 hole.
However, Chop Chop...6 wins in a row.

Definitely not Olson…Arcia would be up there with Ronnie and maybe Travis in terms of clutch. Arcia looks like an amazing signing by AA so far.

On another note, rookie starter Smith-Shawver just became the youngest Braves starter to throw 5 IP or more since Steve Avery in 1990. Crazy considering he only started pitching again 3 yrs ago in high school due to covid canceling football camps, and only has 5 starts combined in AA and AAA prior to MLB debut. Hope he has a long, successful career for the Braves!!

Btw, don’t forget to vote for Arcia, Ronnie, Murphy, Riley, and d’Arnaud for All Stars each day.

LINK

Edit: scroll to the bottom of initial vote to easily vote 4 more times for the same ballot. You get 5 votes a day.

There's also another Brave, if not for a terrible April, would be getting All Star consideration.
He's been clutch as hell since May 1st.
Marcell Ozuna.

And he strikes again with 2R HR in bottom of the 2nd…Braves up 3-1.

but other than that had been meh

Kinda hard to be anything other than "meh" when you don't get to play everyday. He's having a great season, and if our mngr wasn't a complete retard, Arcia would be batting 2nd and have 30+ RBIs and 30+ runs.

Why would the Braves bring Soroka all the way back from those injuries only to let him pitch 2 fricking games... on the road, and then option him? Unless he's injured again, this is the shittiest roster move the Braves have made since trading Wainwright.

Maybe a bit of an overreaction in hindsight. With Shuster and Smith-Sawver as 4th and 5th starter right now, Soroka needed to go back to AAA to keep working on his command. His fastball seems to average low 90s, so command is an absolute must for him to be successful.

I thought the Braves DFA'd Soroka.

Ahhh…yeah, that wouldn’t have made sense. Think he still has a decent amount of options left due to lack of service time.

Absolute bullpen collapse to help the Tigers finally win one. So many crazy things that had to go wrong, including Hilliard being called out when he looked safe in T10 and the Tigers pop up bunt that turned into a single B10.

It was a classic “That’s baseball” type of game.

The closer should never give up 5 hits in one inning. Never.

Iglesias doing Iglesias things.
Dude just can't close the door.
2 innings pitched
8 hits
4 runs
To a team 10 games under .500

Hope AA makes a trade to sure up the bullpen for October.

Both Iglesias and Strider are down on velocity and it’s getting them rocked. Don’t know if it’s over use, mechanics, etc., but it’s not working right now for either of them.

Anderson is getting hit as well and Chavez was carried off the field. Need the all-star break something fierce, and bullpen is a must at the deadline.

Strider isn't getting rocked because his velocity is down.
He's getting rocked because he throws his slider too much. He needs to pitch off his fastball and not the other way around. He also needs to pitch to more contact and stop trying to lead the league in Ks.
Believe it or not, he throws too many strikes.

Iglesias throws to too much contact. You need three outs, bro. He's a 2 pitch pitcher. Use your strengths. If he throws anything other than a slider or fastball, I'd cut his arm off.

In short, Strider is pitching like a closer and Iglesias like a starter.

All 3 of Strider’s home runs in the last game were straight fastballs at 95-96 mph. Can’t blow 95-96 mph with no movement by guys unless you have quality off speed stuff and likely 2 other pitches. Otherwise you just sit on it and don’t swing at the slider. When he was throwing 98-99, it was harder to hit even when they knew it was coming.

Iglesias was throwing 92-93 on his fastball which was also down 2-3 mph. Even 2 MPH is pretty meaningful in effectiveness.

Strider with a masterpiece. Riley/Olson solo bombs.
7 straight wins.
14-2 last 16.
47-26 overall.

Strider looked good.
Iglesias looked better than he has.

Braves keep hitting homers. Ronald Acuña, Jr is definitely a 40/40 threat. He could steal 70+. He stole 3rd tonight late in the game and the pitcher hadn't even thrown home. He's a master base thief.

That De La Cruz kid is something else. Cincy has got themselves one heck of a youngster with that kid.

And Smith-Shawver came crashing down to earth. He got hammered tonight.
