According to a report from The Athletic, the NCAA rules committee is exploring potential rules changes that would help prevent players from faking injuries during games. Something Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin looks to be fully in favor of...

“Obviously, we want to take feigning injuries out of the game,” National director of officials Steve Shaw told The Athletic on Monday. “It’s a bad look for the game. It’s an integrity issue. If you have a feigned injury, it garners an unmerited timeout for your team. We’re really looking at: What’s the next step to move away from that?”

Not only is it a bad look but it hurts any kind of offense that Lane can put out on the field.

make the "injured" player sit out for awhile. Also, don't allow the existing players to go to the sidelines. It's a free timeout. Make the players stay between the hashes, and no coaches allowed out there among the existing players, other than trainers with water.

The most you could do is force the suspected faker to sit out a play. If they are out longer than one play, then it's probably a legit injury. Other than that, not much anyone can do.

They already have to sit out a play. Make them sit out an entire series. If any player is able to return in the same series, they had no business flopping on the field to begin with. A player with a leg cramp can most certainly hop off the field.

So... Say LSU has the ball on their 10 with a minute to go vs Alabama. Unbeaten vs unbeaten. No timeouts. Heisman contending QB for LSU runs for 10 on the first play and gets some dirt in his eye. Has to go to the sideline to get it out. That QB is out for the rest of the game. Can't have a rule only apply to the defense. Can't pick which type of injuries apply.

PeleOfAthletics - No. if they make it to the sideline and substitute he can come back in. If the dirt in his eye makes him collapse on the field and stops play then he would have to sit out a series. We’re talking about players that collapse on the field during a drive.

How can you prove the injury is fake?

When the guy is clearly walking off the field, then the whole sideline is telling them to get down is one tell tell sign.

You don’t need to. You just need to force them to sit out if they’re “injured”. If it’s real they should sit out anyway

Larry loves Lane almost as much as Paige

Maybe make them sit out the rest of the drive. They can return after a change in possession. Faked injuries will decrease by 90% and the games will go much faster.

What a hypocrite! Kiffin is one of the worst users of the fake injuries..
