I always liked Alex Smith. As a Niner fan, I felt he got a raw deal with all the coaching changes that happened during the early years of his career. He had a lot of talent.

Had infection set in, any one else and they would have amputated. Great30 for 30 or ESPN special about it.

Dude has money, ultra-hot ex-Raider cheerleader as wife who was awesome support for him through the whole ordeal. All worked out in the end. Tough trial, but blessed man.

I believe the scars are more from where the tissue had died following some of the surgeries. The tissue dying was the issue during the healing and why he almost lost the leg.
