In a recent profile with Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, Nantz described some of his mannerisms, which include eating popcorn during games, despite the fact that it's the type of food that could get caught in your throat and "put you in the blue tent for a couple of calls.” He then broke down his tradition of eating a hot dog at halftime of every NFL game he broadcasts...
quote:

Nantz eats a hot dog at halftime, too, but only devours those during the NFL season. He doesn’t have time to fiddle around with those little packets of ketchup so he travels with his own bottle. He bends at the waist when he’s eating as not to drip ketchup on his clothing.

By his count, he eats 22 hot dogs per year — matching the number of games he calls — but it’s actually fewer than that because he always tosses the last bite.

“Makes me feel like I didn’t eat the whole thing,” he said.

Less than 22 hot dogs/yr is about one every other week. Which, imo, is a lot of hot dogs for an adult.
We don’t really discuss hot dog consumption in this country anymore. All the focus has been placed on cheeseburgers, and more recently on tacos. At one time pancakes were the subject of discussion. They too, fell out of favor for the more popular cultural demand of cheeseburgers.
