So is there some sort of rule that footballs that go into the stands must be returned? Is that for football only or do you have to return baseballs too? Not sure why the guy was supposed to give the football back

Yes there is. Even in the game. The kickers were practicing pre-game in this instance and the guys in purple are there to return the balls to the field.

You don’t have to return baseballs. (I think you knew that already.)
