Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall, who is believed to be a possible candidate for the LSU job, met with reporters on Tuesday and was asked about the 'elephant in the room' and the rumors linking him to LSU.
quote:

"What's the elephant?" Sumrall joked.

"I'll say this. And Jeff, I love you. I love all y'all for being here. Ya'll cover our program. I'm grateful for it. You got a job to do, you got to ask that question. I got a job to do. It's to coach this football team."

"I've dealt with it every year as a head coach. I understand it comes with the territory. I get those questions because we're having success. That's about our players."

"The coaching carousel to me is not even a thought because we're in the midseason phase. So whenever somebody else wants to do, another program wants to do, what people want to speculate, they're free to do that. UTSA has my 100-percent focus, our team playing the best it can has my 100-percent focus."

"We haven't played our best yet. I'm a little bit, like, urgent and nauseous and fear complacency because we haven't played very well yet. And so whatever's going on out there in that world, that's great for people to speculate."

"Just like you got a job to do, you ask that question. I have a job to do —it's coaching this football team."
Here's Sumrall's full presser from Tuesday below. Skip to the 2:45 mark to see him address the LSU rumors.

He should leave Tulane if only for the fact that they 100% have the worst logo in college football

Man that guy has the “IT” factor. You can clearly see why he is so successful.

He suppresses his true thoughts to protect his team. He seems like he'd do anything for them.

He is a competitor….. seems super prepared and calculated. This is the kind of coach you go with. His expectation would not be as high as Saban or Kiffin and that would be a great thing for him and our fans.

I didn’t hear “no” or that I plan on being the head coach at Tulane. Just focusing on this weeks opponent - uh, for now.

I tell you what, you can tell by the way this guy composes himself, he’s a heck of a coach and will make the most out of any opportunity he is given. You can just tell he’s hungry and deadly focused. It gives me early Saban vibes. I think LSU would hit it big giving this guy a chance.

Got exactly the same vibe watching him speak. Wow! He went from meh to absolutely want watching him speak. Honestly looks much more impressive than Kiffin to me. Kiffin was my first choice until seeing him in that interview and then doing a little research on his past work and experience.

And with that response, everyone understands why coaches lie about their interest in other jobs. It's an impossible question to answer and not come across like you're looking to get out.

That non answer answer means he’s looking and he’s interested in one of the big jobs

He won’t be the LSU HC. Probably Auburn or UK

Well that would be a shame on LSU for always looking for the perfect hire.
