FootballScoop.com is reporting that Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is making a very strong push to hire LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron to be his defensive coordinator.
quote:

Mississippi State: Sources tell FootballScoop that there are other candidates; but Dan Mullen will not offer the defensive coordinator position to anyone else until Ed Orgeron tells him no.
The Bulldogs are looking to replace former DC Manny Diaz who left to take the same position on Mark Richt's coaching staff at Miami (Fla.).

Orgeron has recently said that he would only leave LSU to be a head coach at a Power 5 school.

Leverage. His new LSU deal is going to be pretty good (and rightfully so).

O told USC no this year and told Mullen no last year. He wants to stay until he becomes HC at a good football school.

Former Ole Miss Coach should not even be considering this.

Not to mention, why would you leave a sweet gig at LSU?

Gives Coach O a little bargaining power for his new contract. Good for him.

Wasn't he already going to get a raise to about 700-750k? Why would he leave DL coaching that pays top 10-15 coordinator money, to be a coordinator at Miss St? They'd have to pry the dude away for well over a mill and Miss St ain't bout that action boss.

Plus, working with the talent LSU can get on DL or the...well, you know.

Classic example of trying to take a competitors biggest asset. Make them a little weaker, while yourself stronger. Should not happen considering Mullen wants out of Moo State ASAP. Starkville is not a even an average destination.

Orgeron is not a DC. He never has been. He fell on his face as a head coach. This board used to trash him and call him a cheater when he wasn't here. Now he's DC and HC material? Orgeron's greatest skill is leaving before his act gets tired. He's perfect where is now. He'd be dumb as dirt to change that for delusions of grandeur.
