LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters on Wednesday and said that backup quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. is taking all the first-team snaps in practice this week while Garrett Nussmeier rests during the bye week.
quote:

"It's a great opportunity for him," Kelly said. "We are going to give Garrett some time to rest this week and make sure he's fully at 100 percent. Michael got all the first team reps. He did a great job, but he's still learning. We feel confident in his ability."
Kelly was also asked about developing Van Buren Jr.'s role in the offense, specifically with short-yardage situations:
quote:

"Yeah, we have that package in. We have short-yardage runs for quarterbacks; it's just that I'm not going to take Garrett Nussmeier out of the game to run short-yardage plays.

"We predicate all of that on the type of formations that we run in short yardage, and we gear it towards our quarterback. If he's not our quarterback, we have different answers if it's Michael."

It was a dumb decision to play Nuss against Southeastern. Van Buren should have started that game. Then you have a healthy Nuss against Ole Miss with a bye week following.

Should have read MVB takes first team reps while Nuss is getting his mentality straight and does all the VR training he was supposed to do in the off season.

Kelly is the kind of coach that never buys a new pair of shoes until the old one has a big hole and starts to really hurt! He thinks innovation is putting a decal on the old Chevy while the neighbor has a Tesla.

If Nuss doesn't return to last year's form this team is headed to 4 or 5 loses. No way the backup is as good as Nuss. Alll the people lauding bring in the backup better take a look at his stats at Miss State and in high school. We'll be better off with the #3 kid

Taking reps is one thing. Kelly having the balls to play him is a horse of a different color

Kelly is in a tight spot. That is what he get paid the big bucks for. Sit Nuss and his daddy down and talk. Draft, performance, injury, perception and reality. The whole nation is watching how Nuss is being handled. If hurt, Nuss wants to show NFL teams he is tough. But, it should not cost sacrificing CFP hopes. Draft position is a money and career matter. Shadeur Sanders draft saga is a reminder. Kelly handles Nuss wrong and our pre-Burrow post Matt Flynn QB history could return and the backup QB’s could bolt. Communication, communication communication! This team is too loaded not to put them in the position to win a National Championship.

Now the rumors are that Nuss hasn't put in the work that a NIL paid professional should have.

So BK is an idiot for backing his 4,000 yard passing Heisman candidate QB for a QB that looked good in mop up duties against a lower level team? Oh yeah, that's a brilliant assessment a bunch of, well IDIOTS!!!!!

For all you Couch Coaches on here there is a reason Nuss has been playing ahead of Van Buren. Because he is better.

So, they have packages for short yardage situations and have a mobile QB, yet BK admits he won’t pull Nuss to gain short yardage by utilizing the mobile QB.

See the problem guys?

I am not suggesting we bench Nuss…but had Van Buren played the second half in total, we win that game. So kelly just said “nope I’m the boss screw the win”

Coaches try to hide things, but fans see what's up. Especially today, fans see everything with social media.

South Carolina is terrible on offense too. Run game is nonexistent like LSU's. Their defense is mediocre at best too. It's a home game. Perfect chance to see what MVB can do while resting Nuss another week. If we score 20 points (OFFENSIVELY), MVB has to be the guy until he completely shits the bed. Seriously, LSU hasn't scored 20 points offensively on a power 4 team this year. If LSU can average 28 points a game, they won't face a legit threat until the SECCG. Ole Miss would have been at 17 points or below had the offense had any kind of output.
