That would be a true path to mediocrity. We would be accused of not being able to compete in the SEC and that we were running away. Our tv money would take a huge hit, etc. etc. I hate the fact that the SEC has expanded to where some years we don't play traditional rivalries but that is the way modern sports are.
It sounds like you want welfare for baseball. Tax the other teams and give baseball the money they earned. I am sure that just because baseball earns more ticket sales, you wouldn't want to have basketball take some of them.
Some of the numbers are 9.4 million watch the college basketball tournament and 1.3 million watch the college baseball World Series. College baseball fans don't seem to be able to get their heads around the fact that two thirds of the country don't care about their sport.

Sick of paying coaches millions to sit on their arse.
The idea of punishing a coach by making him "work" just doesn't fly. With a guaranteed contract, a coach can put in as many hours or as few hours as they want. I am not saying McMahon is one, but some of these head coaches hardly work at all. The University of Texas had a former basketball coach, Tom Penders, who was known as Hollywood Tom because he was always partying. While the assistant coaches and players were at practice, Penders would be in a bar knocking down drinks. If he was ever needed everyone knew where he was. So how hard these coaches work is pretty much left up to them.
Texas has great guards and good three point shooters. We kept trying to get our guards to outplay theirs. On this night that just wasn't going to happen. Where we did have an advantage was in the paint and we failed to capitalize on it. Richard was 1-10 and Koval, Knox and Joyner only had 10 attempts among them, of which they hit 6. It was a tossup as to whether it was the passes or the catches which backfired but there was very few feeds to the post which could be called good.
So let's say you're only a fan. Not a rich guy. Just someone who buys a ticket or signs up for an expensive cable or streaming service to see his Tigers.
You are told the money spent on players is everything when it come to those Tigers winning games and making you happy. Oh lord, let's not comment on "other peoples money". Guess it is not our team anymore, just the big donors?

Here's hoping the hot hands are hot and the turnovers are not! Fullwiley do for a good game.

We have one of the highest paid rosters in the country. No excuse for this team not to be a top 25 team. But our HC can’t scout and/or develop talent.
It is totally false that we have a highly paid roster compared to other schools. Not only are we not in the top 20 nationally, we aren't even in the top ten in the SEC. In fact most estimates put us next to last in conference. Top players are going for one to two million and our highest paid player is around $800,000.

re: Koval Question

Give the girl a break. She wasn't great but did ok when she was in there. She is really active and hustling which she wasn't at the start of the season. Joyner played her best game of the season IMO and Koval may not have looked good in comparison but look at the stats. Koval tied for most rebounds at 10 with Joyner in half the time. She did have 2 turnovers but our three "stars" had 3 each. So ease up until she does have a bad game. This wasn't one of them.

Really cannot wait to go back to WBB being irrelevant so we only lose $4 mil and we can put that extra money into MBB so maybe we can start making $7-$8 mil+
You create profit by sales less expense, not by big brother putting more money in your account. How would baseball use that 7 to 8 million to create more revenue? You are already selling out home attendance, right? You already have sponsors buying ads and donating score boards(UFCU). You can't control tv revenue by putting more money in the budget? Only thing I can think of is taking on a lot of long term debt and tearing down the baseball field and building one with more seats?

Kind of crazy that baseball didn't profit, but it's not structured as a profitable sport.

Jay Johnson making $3M a year probably contributes to this.
Travel expense also has a lot to do with baseball's profit. They actually lose money going to the College World Series because it cost more to travel and stay in hotels than they get in revenue.
Horrible analogy. Advertising for what? If a corporation was losing money and paid 3 million for a billboard that would be a horrible decision.
Many people have posted that baseball makes a profit and brings in more money than basketball. So don't say that doesn't happen because it does over and over again.
If you were smart, you wouldn't gamble.

re: Dedan Thomas Jr. injury updates?

The only one who hits an open three with any consistency is McKinnon. How many times, when we pass up the open two pointer do we commit a turnover? How many times do our players try to drive when there are three players waiting for them? Far better to take an open two than wind up late in the shot clock with a desperation two or drive which has no chance.

He definitely has a role on the team. But that role isn't trying to create offense
There was lots of bad offense to look at in this game and Tamba was a small part of it. For instance, Reece an under 30 % three point shooter leading off the game with a quick long one which he missed. Sutton only taking four shots, At least Tamba is hitting a third of his threes which justifies him taking one once in a while. The real problem with this team is shot selection. They pass up fairly good shots to try and work it inside which results in a turnover or missed shot. Tamba has ten foot jumpers open all game and doesn't take them. He never tries to drive even though he has shown great athletic ability and the ability to finish. When our offense consists of Nwoko dunks when open and McKinnon threes when open, we desperately need more shots by Sutton and Tamba just to keep the defense honest if nothing else and I think both could thrive with those mid range jump shots.

Expected to heap praise on the coaches because of the “comeback”. I’m sorry but considering that I have standards for this program, that game was not good enough for me.
I have done my share of criticizing McMahon but this year I decided to concentrate on the players and trying to enjoy the games. Was McMahon responsible for PV hitting all those threes? We had a hand in their face on many of them and they made shots all night long that would have been in the 8 to 9 difficulty range. When you're hot, you're hot. Basketball is much more about individual talent than football. John Woodward is recognized as the greatest college coach ever but without Walt Hazzard, Gail Goodrich, Jabbar, etc. he would not have won nearly as many titles and games. So is MaMahon a great coach? No. But can you blame everything that happens in a game on him? No. Leave it at that and let's try and win as many games as we can and celebrate those that we do, even if we don't play to our potential every time out.

I look at this team and I want to hope we can surprise some folks but the realist in me says it will be tough sledding. The key at this point is inside scoring, inside defense and rebounding. Three point shooting is not going to win many games for us as we only hit a third of those attempts. Nwoko and Sutton are going to have a lot on their shoulders. Tamba has proven to be a good all around player but he has to take on more of the offense when they are doubling McKinnon and Nwoko.
We can't allow so many offensive rebounds and putbacks and need more of those ourselves. Nwoko is key and has to stay out of foul trouble. Bench has proven to be ineffective and the starters will probably be very tired toward the end of the season. I still think we have the talent to pull some upsets but can't afford to lose any games we are favored in.
If you have YouTube TV, then you also have ESPN and can watch it on that channel SEC plus.
So this is Mac's first year and I must have just imagined all those bad teams and bad losses I had to sit through for three years? With the portal, every year is a rebuilding year for the teams that aren't elite. Even Duke has to rebuild as their one and don's head off to the NBA.
