LSU suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night, falling to Ole Miss 32-24 in a highly anticipated SEC showdown at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Tigers came up short in Lane Kiffin's return to Oxford, as Ole Miss handed its former head coach a loss in his first game back against the Rebels.

Ole Miss jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who threw two touchdown passes in the first half. LSU's lone score before the break came on a two-yard touchdown run by Dilin Jones.

The Tigers rallied in the second half, with quarterback Sam Leavitt scoring on a four-yard touchdown run before connecting with Winston Watkins Jr. on a 26-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 24-21.

LSU kicker Scott Starzyk tied the game at 24-24 with a 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

However, Chambliss answered with a 14-yard touchdown run with 6:14 remaining. Ole Miss added a two-point conversion to take a 32-24 lead and held on for the victory. Chambliss finished with 363 passing yards and two touchdowns.

LSU also suffered a significant injury during the game when star tight end Trey'Dez Green injured his right leg in the third quarter. Green was helped off the field and later carted to the locker room. He was eventually seen on the sideline in street clothes and on crutches.

LSU starting defensive back Dashawn Spears also suffered a significant injury in the first half and was later spotted on crutches on the sidelines

The loss drops LSU to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in SEC play, while Ole Miss improves to 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

LSU returns home next Saturday to face Texas A&M at Tiger Stadium.

Not all that bad...but QB and Receiver connection must improve.

Defensive game planning had me scratching my head.

Too much god damn money spent on this offense to look like that. Leavitt scared to throw, seaton with multiple false starts and getting beat off the line the whole first half, Tre’dez potentially out for however long, and WRs are lackluster, but that’s Leavitt’s fault.

5 picks thru 3 games

Yes his accuracy is pathetic, and every game 3 to 5 batted balls is unacceptable. Paying 4 million, to a tough QB who continues to miss wide open receivers

He’s still developing. Year 2–just wait.

Ole Miss needs to enjoy this high right now! Because as soon as that freaking quarterback leaves, the fall of their football program starts! He’s honestly the best quarterback I’ve seen since Joe Burrow. This will be the toughest game LSU will play all year long. I don’t see LSU losing another game after this.

My thoughts exactly. Chambliss is incredible. This was always gonna be a tough one to go get the win. Glad they came back and made it a nail biter. I think Leavitt will get more decisive and accurate as the season goes too.

Well that’s what you get with 6 years of eligibility right?

Leavitt missed a WIDE OPEN TD to Grace and two plays before when he scrambled to the right sideline Harris was wide open in the corner of the endzone right in front of him and Leavitt never even looked up! Infuriating

QB looked like he shite his pants on the playground. He sucks so bad. His first instinctnisntonrin like he’s scares. He was good against bad teams. We will lose against TX, AL and TN, especially now since the injuries are upon us.

I mean, only watch most of the 1st half. Had better things to do like sleep!

We had WIDE open receivers all night. He played with nervous energy instead of being composed and making reads.

It was a poor coaching performance by by whoever was calling the defense and offense

This feels like last year all over. Long season if we don’t have a quarterback that can throw 25-30 yard passes. Ole Miss rushed 6 or 7 the whole game

It takes time to build a team/program so no worries. This Ole Miss team is what Kiffin built and not what Golding built. Remember what Saban left Miles and Saban's 1st season was 7-6!

They fought hard in a really tough environment and came up short. How Lane and Blake didn’t know pressure was the ONLY way to beat Chambliss—at least in the first half—is beyond me. That kid loses all his superpowers when you get a little pressure on him.

Some of the offensive play-calling wasn’t very good either, especially late in the game. Settling for 3 instead of going for the touchdown, then bringing our backup in on that bunch play just to use him as a decoy? Wtf?

Bottom line: if you give a QB with Chambliss’s athleticism six f’n years of eligibility, I guess he should be that good. Tough night, but I stand behind this team. It looks like every championship-caliber team in this league has flaws. Nobody has looked invincible so far. Especially those that have played real talent.

Patrick Mahomes Jr.. Hate to say it but Kiffin got out coached by a rookie. Not the end of the world...we learn and evolve.

No, LSU got outplayed by the better QB. He’s gone after this year, and with it all of Ole Miss’s success.

Chambliss is an outstanding player: very accurate passer even when scrambling. Leavitt was rushed all game, OL not great for LSU today. Ole Miss receivers made some very nice catches
