Former LSU teammates JaMarcus Russell and Dwayne Bowe recently chatted with TMZ Sports about the Tigers' hiring of Lane Kiffin.

Russell played under Kiffin during his rookie season with the Raiders in 2007 before Kiffin was fired four games into the 2008 season.
quote:

"I was learning to be a professional athlete. He was learning to be a professional coach," JaMarcus told us.

"I think if he had some time, it would've worked. We didn't have time to go through stages of years together, but I think he's done well at the collegiate level with every team he's been on," Russell said of his time with Kiffin.

"Hopefully that's what myself and the rest of the Tiger fans and staff are waiting on to happen [at LSU]."

The two haven't been in constant contact over the years, but the men have spoken over texts from time to time, and there's absolutely no bad blood.

As for Bowe, he expects to see results right away ... saying when you get LSU, "You don't have time."

"They're bringing you in for right now," Dwayne said. "And I think with his coaching ability and the guys that's there and the support he have from us, the fans, the energy he gonna receive, and just that grittiness that he's gonna bring back, I think it's gonna be right now."

"We got a lot of dogs over there."

When I hear or see the name Jamarcus Russell, I can only remember when Lil Wayne mentioned about partying with him during an interview on ESPN.

Was Lane Kiffin responsible for drafting JaMarcus Russell #1 overall in 2007? That has to be the worst move of his entire coaching career.

Lane wanted Calvin Johnson, the owner wanted Russell

There is a higher probability of Kiffin failing than succeeding at LSU. When they lose another 5-6 games in 26, rant is gonna rant big. Unless they pull a shiny new QB out of thin air, Tigers will be average again on O, especially if there is not an overhaul of lineman

I don’t agree he won’t have time. We gave Kelly time. Kiffin will have time. There just needs to be improvement.

I agree somewhat...depends on the OL. Most seem to be watching the QB situation but I'm pretty sure that is going to be resolved via the portal. But the OL remains a mystery to me. These OL were HIGHLY rated AND HIGHLY recruited...bunch of offers. So I'm hoping that Brad Davis was just a crappy coach. But if the OL doesn't improve via the current ones getting better and the addition of portal OL, it doesn't matter what QB you have. If the OL is just decent, LSU fans expect a playoff NEXT season.

Good O line and avg QB play and good defense will go a long way. Worked for years for Miles.

Some of my best memories of LSU football were watching these two. Possibly my favorite WR to play for the Tigers.
