ESPN is reporting that former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu will have surgery on his fractured and dislocated left thumb and will miss at least three weeks.

The Cardinals do not plan on putting Mathieu on injured reserve as they are hopeful he'll return this season, sources told Werder.

Coach Bruce Arians said Monday that the team's best-case scenario was for Mathieu to have been able to play Dec. 7, against Kansas City.
The Arizona Cardinals are currently sitting at first atop the NFC West at 9-3.
