LSU is ranked No. 12 in ESPN's 2025 FPI rankings with a 30.3-percent chance of making the College Football Playoffs and a 1.8-percent chance of winning the National Championship.
quote:

Just to refresh our memories, the FPI is a predictive rating system that estimates each FBS team's strength (in points per game relative to the national average) on offense, defense and special teams, making adjustments for starters lost, recruiting talent and other personnel changes. Those numbers are then plugged into the schedule, and everything is simulated 20,000 times to track each team's odds of winning its conference, making the playoff and advancing through to the national title.
Here are some other tidbits from ESPN's FPI projections article:

-The SEC is projected to get 4.6 teams into the CFP with a 61.4 percent chance of winning the National Championship.

-The Big Ten is projected to get 2.9 teams into the CFP with a 25.8 percent chance of winning the National Championship.

-LSU is projected to have the 7th-best offense in college football in 2025, and the 19th in defense.

LSU will play in four of the "Most anticipated games of 2025 based on projected FPI ratings":

No. 12 LSU at No. 3 Alabama
No. 8 Texas A&M at No. 12 LSU
No. 12 LSU at No. 11 Clemson
No. 12 LSU at No. 13 Ole Miss

Doesn’t matter. Kelly can’t win a Game 1 to save his life.

What was the 2019 LSU ESPN FPI ranking before the season started?

Their poll is interesting, but irrelevant. Everyone will find out just how good a team we have on the evening of August 30. I can hardly wait!

Teams that LSU should be ahead of here:
Tennessee
TAMU
Miami
Penn St
Texas
Oregon

I feel decently confident on a neutral field we would win majority of these games.

What a joke. No reason we're not top 5. And 0 reason Texas to be top 5, much less, #1 when they had 0 ranked wins last year regular season.

With projected 7th best Offense and 19th in Defense, that seems like a playoff team lock

All you need to know about the FPI is it had 2019 LSU still ranked 2nd after we won the national championship game.
