During his press conference on Tuesday, Brian Kelly was asked about his decision not to kick a field goal on 4th down just before halftime last week vs. Clemson.

Instead of taking the three points, LSU threw a pass short of the first down marker to Chris Hilton, who fumbled the ball and ended the Tigers' chances of scoring before halftime.

Kelly took the blame for the mismanagement at the end of the half and said he should have kicked the field goal.

Just take the damn points Coach, especially on the road with not much clock to burn

I don’t want an apology for not going for the FG and or missing the 4th down conversion. What I want is an apology for going for it on 4th down in that situation without having Trey’Dez on the Field as an option.

If you go for it, you go for the endzone for the exact reasons he just stated. You are trying to get a TD rather than a FG and if you just get the 1st down you have to execute another play just 2 yards closer and then risk the clock running out and get nothing.

How a HC doesn't see this in real time is mind blowing IMO. Toss it up to Green on 4th down has to have better odds then getting a 1st down hoping enough time still left and running another play where you probably throw up to Green and then hoping enough time left to settle for the FG if its incomplete.

For a group always being called dumbasses, Tigers fans are at least more intelligent than analytics.

It wasn't analytics. It was emotion.
