On Friday night, LSU reeled in a commitment from three-star defensive lineman Walter Mathis Jr.

The 6-3, 285-pound prospect from Savannah, Ga., chose the Tigers over Miami, Clemson, and Auburn. Mathis received his offer from LSU last November and holds offers from over 30 college teams.

Mathis becomes Bo Davis' fourth interior defensive lineman in the 2025 class and LSU's 26th overall commitment.

Build those lines. You win in the trenches. The transfer portal fiasco showed how valuable DTs are.

But in recruiting, don't schools use a shotgun with bird shot rather than a rifle? Meaning, they cast a wide net hoping to land a small fraction of that.

So if I get an offer from LSU, I might be offer #143 in the cycle and them only being able to take 25, if someone better commits, don't they kick me to the curb? Ain't that how it works? I'm asking.

So who offered doesn't seem to hold all that much sway with me. Is my thinking wrong?

Yes your thinking is bad. Big schools do not offer every 3 star. Hell, they don't offer every 4 star.
