LSU added more depth to the defensive back position on Thursday when 2023 three-star defensive back Ryan Robinson Jr. committed to the Tigers as a preferred walk-on.

The New Orleans native (Edna Karr) held power five offers from schools like Nebraska, Arkansas, Auburn, and many others.

He had scholarship offers from some other decent schools but chose to walk on? Does "preferred" have some money attached?

Must really be his "dream school" then.

He's a walk-on with a guaranteed roster spot, that's the preferred spot. Maybe, in the future, they'll put him on scholarship.

That’s called Loving Louisiana and Believing in your abilities! To have a guy turn down a dozen Power Five schools to walk on and play for his state’s LSU Tigers! Huge recruiting accomplishment for the staff and a big statement from this player!

I’m assuming he could use NIL money to pay his tuition?

I appreciate him doing this but honestly don’t understand the logic when he holds several offers from power 5 schools.

Why does he come on as a walkon and what is a preferred walkon?

Exaxtly what you asked in the question. Lau prefers him as a walk on so thats what he was offered. It really is not a trick question

Preferred walk-ons arrive to college with a roster spot guaranteed for them. Walk-ons, however, arrive to college without a guaranteed roster spot. Neither preferred walk-ons nor walk-ons receive a scholarship their first year on campus.
