On May 10, 1997, Bama beat LSU 28-2, and both teams played for the National Championship, with LSU winning 13-6. Two years ago, Florida beat LSU 24-4 in the 2nd game of the CWS Championship Series, only to to lose the deciding game, 18-4. Games like last night's aren't as big a deal as winning when it really counts. Former coaches have experimented with mid-week lineups for decades so that those players can get playing experience. These guys may fail one night and then turn out to be stellar at other times. At this time of the season, let's try to sharpen the skills of future players instead of putting them down because they underperformed.

Reporter: "Coach Johnson, what's your thoughts on tonight's game?"

Coach Johnson: "Well we didn't have quality at bats, they were throwing pitches that were optically challenging for us at the plate. Our pitching staff wasn't pitching to the level of quality that we want at LSU."

In normal people speak.... hitters couldn't hit and pitchers couldn't pitch.

That's just mid-week baseball. It's a long season. Tigers are still on track to win it all in Omaha.
