Looks like the player ran into him and the refs hand may have gotten stuck. Ref freaked out and tried to pull back resulting in helmet ripping off. Ref should have went to hand it back but player probably had some choice words.

His hand wasn't stuck. He grabbed mask. Look at him switch the mask to his left hand after the play to throw the flag.
