Please tell me, is lighting a wet baseball field on fire a real way to dry it? Because common sense tells me, "no." This Utah high school baseball coach's common sense told him, "yes." Now he's on administrative leave. Per Fox13 Utah...
quote:

The Clearfield High School baseball field has been shut down due to contamination. The school district says the baseball coach poured petroleum on parts of the field to dry it out, causing the contamination.

According to the Davis County Health Department, a concerned parent notified them of a strong gasoline smell near the baseball field at Clearfield High School.

Did this for years on every level of field from T Ball to college. It works for everyone except the "outraged" and "offended". What the hell, the guy found a way to get it done and play but the "concerned" always find a way to shut it down.

Our kids in Louisiana play with tar balls and swim in ponds with petro sheen on the surface, but other parts of the country frown upon pouring petroleum products all over a playground.

Was at a Dixie Youth tourney back in the early 80s. Friday night it rained. Saturday morning a PHI helicopter was flown in and hovered over the two fields. Then, yep, that demon gasoline was poured on the infields of both and set afire. No adverse effects...yet.

rubbing Alcohol burns hotter and cleaner and won't leave the smell. A little more expensive but no one will ever know you did it. I agree with his initiative, but his execution could have been better.

The baseball puns in this news story are exhausting.

Shocker a couple of women in the "concerned" side. And ole boy just got himself a brand new infield. Good work, young coach. Enjoy your few days off!

Funny how people have to find outrage in everything. Ain’t like the dude was lighting it while kids were playing ball.
