ESPN Names Candidates To Replace Hugh Freeze At Auburn

Auburn's search for a new head coach officially began on Sunday after the firing of Hugh Freeze.

Freeze was in his third year with the Tigers and was just 4-5 overall and 1-5 in SEC play this season. His overall record at Auburn was 15-19 (6-16 SEC).

The next Auburn head football coach will be the Tigers’ fourth in seven years. Here's a list of potential candidates for the job, according to ESPN:

Georgia Tech coach Brent Key
Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz
Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea
Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann

ESPN pretty much hyped Napier right into the Florida job.

With the new 9 game SEC scheduling, Brent Key would be a total fool to jump to a conference where it will now be even harder to make the playoffs.

Key and Lea aren’t leaving their alma maters unless there’s a lot more cash. Schumann is a Bama grad. Sumrall probably wants the Kentucky job. Drink has a better program at Mizzou.

Getting people to leave their Alma Mater isn’t as difficult as people make it out. Prime example is current Michigan State HC Johnathan Smith. He is an Oregon State grad. He was at Oregon State and turned them around and got them into the top 15-20 and a bigger more prestigious job came calling. It took all of 5 minutes of convincing for him to leave his Alma Mater. And while he wasn’t a Notre Dame graduate, Brian Kelly is a HUGE catholic. Notre Dame is Mecca for Catholics. LSU took him like a knife through butter. It’s all about program perception. And if you can actually win a championship at the university. Auburn is one you can if you coach them correctly.

Schumann is a Bama grad? So? And? One of Auburns best coaches was a UGA grad likewise one of UGAs best coaches was an Auburn grad. Yall say this like a persons fandom would stop them from taking a job making millions and will lead to generational wealth, win or lose.

Sumrall if given his choice between Auburn and Kentucky would only pick Auburn on days that end in Y. But I was unaware that the Kentucky job is available… Strange… after researching for 0.472 seconds I see Stoops still employed at Kentucky. So to suggest Sumrall would turn down a SEC job because he “wants” a job that’s unavailable is ignorance at best. Besides the fact that Sumrall is an Alabama guy who has many relationships with Alabama high school football coaches…

No knowledgeable college football fan remotely thinks Missouri is a better job than Auburn. Not a single one outside actual Missouri fans. Auburn is one of around 15 schools that have a legitimate shot at making a national championship run
