It is not puzzling. Saban realizes that if CBK is in the ballpark talentless wise, he can't beat him. He pounded him at ND, as CBK did not have LSU talent. Saban believes Rees can give him insight into CBK. It's not rocket science.

As a Bama fan both the OC and DC hires were odd. Especially in a year where no one knows who the QB will end up being. But that could be a bonus as it'll probably be "just pound the rock" type offense.
