Struggle is a strong word to use. You also conveniently left off Mizzou, Florida, and OSU (35+ points against each) who all were better defensively than State.

As for the original topic it depends on the QB and OLine. Though mostly unproven WR and RB are deep with talent. We return two of our three best along the oline so I expect at worst a marginal improvent. Brown was probably our worst starting olineman of the past several years and Shepard was solid but nothing spectacular.

Coker is the expected starter and his talent was evident in his limited playing time. With more time in the system to improve his timing, ability to make reads and hopefully his situational awareness our offense could be better than last season with a more consistent oline.

I think our offense will be better next year. Better RBs, OL, and QB. TE will probably be even. We lose Cooper at WR, but we have some talented young guys that will probably be better than Jones and White.

Safety could be an issue but we return our best corner. With Jackson further removed from his knee injury and Brown/Humphrey having a year in the system there's optimism that the other corner spot will be much improved.

Geno Smith has shown flashes of being a good player; I'd expect him to fill one of the safety spots. Who plays in the other is anyone's guess. A couple of recruiting misses and Eddie Williams being a dumbass hurt us there.

Neither team should be beating their chest over that position. At least AU fired their DB Coach.

And Bama replaced theirs. Thank God.

Ehh, unproven talent at best. Robert Foster stays in Nick Saban's doghouse and Chris Black hasn't been anywhere near the playmaker everyone thought he would be. Plus, it's hard to replace the top 3 playmakers out wide (Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White and Christion Jones).

I view Alabama's passing attack kind of like it was from 2010 to 2011.

In 2010, Alabama had 3,395 receiving yards with 24 touchdowns, yet lost it's top wide receiver - Julio Jones. He was the obvious alpha of the group. In 2011, Alabama had 2,797 yards with 16 touchdowns. That was with replacing Greg McElroy with AJ McCarron, and trying to fill the void of losing their best wide receiver, Julio Jones. Sound familiar?

Now, having said that, I do view Lane Kiffin as a more superior passing game coordinator...which makes me think it will be better than it was in 2011, but not by some large margin.

Their offense will take a step back and the defense will carry them.

They probably go 11-1 next season or 10-2

Just glancing at their schedule, it'll be fun to watch them @ Georgia, vs Arkansas, @ Texas A&M, vs LSU, @ Mississippi State and @ Auburn.

I agree, though I do think our current WR talent on campus is probably better than it was then, and our scheme is definitely more friendly.

The other comparison between 2010 and 2011 is that the 2011 OL was better than the 2010 OL, and we were better at running the football, meaning we didn't have to load everything on young WR's and a young QB. Not to mention the best defense of the last 50 years.

I THINK our OL will be better this year like that one was, and hopefully that means we are running more on early downs and giving our QB/WRs 2nd and 5s to operate out of.

If our OL isn't improved and we aren't any better running the football then we could have problems.

Not to mention Ole Miss and Tennessee, and for that matter Wisconsin. It's a rough schedule.

Cyrus is just one player and even he's just okay, not a shutdown corner by any means. The rest of the secondary is a mess. Eddie Jackson is complete trash, Brown blew coverages repeatedly in limited action, Humphrey didn't even get on the field probably because he couldn't pick up the playbook, and I have no idea what the hell they're going to do at safety next year. At this point, I wouldn't mind if Fitzpatrick, Sheffield, Thompson all get significant playing time this year and go through the growing pains now instead of later.

Christion Jones was terrible this season. He'll be easy to replace.
