Where does Kenyan Drake fit into the backfield next year? Honestly, I'm still not sold on Derrick Henry.
Honestly, if healthy, Drake is 1B next season I think. Of course his role is a bit different because they will line him up in the slot and even out wide, stuff they generally wouldn't do with any of our other backs, but I fully expect him to get 20 touches a game next season.
I just don't know about Henry. The problem is he is really bad at short yardage and hitting the hole quickly, which sort of totally negates his power. It takes him a while to get going, and because he doesn't run through people real well he almost never gets to show off his true speed. I would assume he will get more tosses next season as he was much better at those than dive plays, but I just don't know what to think of him. I think if Scarborough is as good as people think that he could push for time as well. His best role is 4th quarter battering ram, but he's gotta be the guy at some point one would think.
Tyren Jones is going to be a really good player. He runs hard, has great feet and is really shifty. If Drake doesn't come back full speed I'm guessing Jones gets quite a bit of PT.
I'd assume Harris and Flowers sit, but I don't have any idea how ready they are or how they will fit in to the current group.

Nah, they are both RBs.
Drake will be a big play threat. He will move around some and Kiff will try to put him in mismatch situations. How effective he is coming off the surgery will dictate how large his role will be.
Henry will be the workhorse. A lot of Bama fans aren't completely sold on him either.

My guess:
1)Henry (for some odd reason)
2)Drake
3)Jones
4)Scarbrough
5)Harris
6)Flowers
4 and 5 are probably interchangeable.

I really liked what I saw out of Jones this year. I hope they find a way to get him involved.

I would love to see both Drake and Jones on the field at the same time. Jones at RB, Drake in the slot.

Good thread boys, nice to see we can still have actual football discussions

If it was up to me, I would move Drake to the slot permanently with the option to slide him to RB after everyone is set. Jones would be the #1 RB with either Bo, Harris, or Henry backing him up.

Henry's still the best RB on the roster. And Drake's not the answer. He doesn't know how to secure the football and fumbles the ball way too much.

I think Jones will be the star of some spring scrimmages. Although, since they are working in a new qb, Aday might be more of a passing exhibition.

Maybe because he was one of our most effective players on offense last year?

I'm really not sure he is

So did Yeldon for a time, still trade that for the explosive plays he brings

He might not be THE answer, but he will be AN answer. To think otherwise is woefully ignorant.

Okay coach.

In games when he had space he was. In games when tough yards through contact were needed he wasn't.
@ Ole Miss - 17 carries, 37 yards
@ Arkansas - 7 carries, 25 yards
@ LSU - 8 carries, 24 yards
He's great if he gets open space and is allowed to get a full head of steam. People just bounce off. But in games where contact is made within 3 yards of the LOS he has serious issues. I just don't think it's a thing that you can coach out of a guy. He just doesn't have great balance. And he's gigantic.

None of our RBs ran especially well in the games you listed, because the run blocking in those games was shite. MI, TR, EL-none of them would have likely had strong games with run blocking like that.

It's like Derrick Henry, even for his size, struggles to break tackles unless he is able to get a good running head start. His speed is pretty damn impressive when he gets in the open field, but his acceleration and agility seem to lack (he's a big guy so it's understanding). I ultimately question his lower body strength at the line of scrimmage.

Partly, but EL would have gotten 3-4 more often than 0-2. Henry gets hit at the line and he goes down. Immediately. There is no falling forward, no nothing.
Not to mention Yeldon ran for 123 against Ole Miss, so it isn't like we didn't run the football.
