The amount of time the players actually spend in Coleman is extremely small. Most of their time is spent in the practice facility, which is one of the biggest and best in the nation. We just built that in the last few years. When we're winning, Coleman gets loud as frick.

Totally agree. I was a student back when Gottfried had us playing as well as anyone in the conference and we almost never lost at home. Coleman is loud as hell near the floor in a good game where the crowd is needed.

The seating and lighting make it a very dull place to watch a game.

I've never been to an arena and thought, "Wow, the lighting in this place really adds something."

But most places do not make you want to shoot yourself after sitting in it for 30 min. Coleman is one of the most depressing Arena's I have ever experienced.

Gottfried was a much better coach than most Bama Fans want to admit.

Coaches care. Coaches like Shaka Smart or proven coaches know that you have to have the infrastructure of a program to make it successful. This include Arena's, practice facilies and Student participation.

You know what else coaches care about? A program that can triple their salary to a top 10 level and would give them a lifetime appointment just to make us a consistent tournament team. I'm not saying we are going to land Cal, Izzo, etc, but our football money can buy any coach who is willing to be bought. And a great coach can win big at Bama.

If so, why hasn't it happened ? I think you are fooling yourself.

No doubt. But he did get lazy and content. He needed the kick in the arse we gave him. I hope he keeps doing well at NCSt.

We have not fired Grant. Yet. Wait and see. We may not land an elite name, but we can assure any up and coming coach that if they succeed we have the money to pay them whatever they want.

There are not many and possibly none at all. But we can certainly land a solid coach and pay him that type of money if he succeeds. That would have to be very alluring to anyone hoping for job security and mega-cash.

Mark Few - Gonzaga. Currently making $1.2M/year. Offer would triple his salary.

Gregg Marshall - Witchita State. Currently making $1.75M/year. Offer would double his salary.

Two candidates you would not have to offer $3M+, but would likely consider job based on pay increase opportunity alone:
Tommy Amacker - Harvard. Currently making $700K/year. Could offer $2M to nearly triple his salary.

Steve Prohm - Murray St. Currently making approx. $300K/year. Could offer $1M to triple his salary.

I get that feeling every time they show a Bama game on tv. I hate the lighting on my tv.

Another Grant type hire.

You know for a fact he's been offered $3M+ and turned it down?

Really? Alabama went to the NCAA tournament 5 years in a row from 2002-2006 including an elite 8 appearance, #2 seed, and an AP #1 ranking at one point in time.

There are a lot of better basketball programs than Alabama who can't pay their coaches nearly as much as we can. Alabama basketball can succeed for the same reasons football schools like Texas and Florida have good basketball programs. Our excess football money can fund basketball.
