How hard will it be for them to find a big time coach with their current facilities ? Coleman is a shithole and I do not think there are any plans for new Arena anytime soon. Is it going to be status quo with a new coaching hire ?

F You for the misleading thread title that gave us false hope.

Shouldn't be too hard.

Not very. The new coach will be well paid (similarly to how the current Bama coach is paid more than the current AU coach). Additionally, facilities will be upgraded just like nearly all other facilities have been in recent years.

Bama is a good basketball school. There was an 11 year stretch when Bama won the SEC Tourney 5 times, went to the NCAA Tourney 10 times, and made the Sweet Sixteen 6 times. They've been good before and, with correct leadership, can be again.

Big time Coaches are not going to be drawn by money alone. They will want a big time commitment from the school on facilities and support staff. AU tried to throw a lot of money at Mike Brey a few years ago, he laughed at them.

Welp, the upshot is we're not poor like Auburn and have plenty of money to hire one with.

What upgrades ? The have already tried dumping money in Coleman once, and it failed. They are going to need a new Arena at some point. I do not see them spending $200M in the near future.

Some big time coaches wont, some will. Just have to get the right one. Don't fool yourself into believing that Alabama can't be good at basketball because of Coleman.

We shall see. The first sign will be if they keep Grant.

Coleman is awful. It is probably one of the worst arenas in the SEC but since we put so much money into it 10 years ago nobody at UA wants to build a new one. The $25 million dollar "renovation" was lipstick on a pig and did nothing but prevent us from getting a better arena.

I hope that our next coach comes in and demands a new one.

I mean AG gets talented recruits year in and year out with no signs of forward progress. It's possible to get solid 4 year players to bama that a good player developer can make into studs

Pearl inherited a junior high squad at best. KT and Cinmeon are the only SEC caliber players on the team at this point.

Alabama does not need a new arena to win in basketball. All we need is 5 good players. Basketball is not reliant on facilities in nearly the same extent that football is. Alabama basketball has always recruited well and we pack out Coleman when we are winning. We just need a coach who knows how to develop talent.

Modern day recruits flock to coaches who can win and get them to the NBA. They don't care about arenas as much as message board fans like to think. If huge luxurious arenas won basketball games, Duke would be a shitty basketball school.

Coleman was a terribly designed building for basketball.

Vandy's is too, but that place is awesome.

Why, based on your vast knowledge of the fundraising efforts and basketball commitment at Alabama, do you not "see them spending $200M in the near future"?
