If he can win the SEC with John Parker Wilson, Greg McElroy and most of all Blake Sims at QB, I'm not concerned with that position.

No kidding. We won the SEC with some of our worst QBs since I've been alive. I think we'll be OK.

This is where I exit the thread, laughing hysterically.

QB is a mess right now. Barnett looks like a future #1 overall pick to people who have been watching him in practice, and has been the best QB so far.

If QB is a mess, then he hasn't been looking like a future number one overall pick.

Bama lost a lot on O from last year. It's not just the QB. WR and OL are both positions with a lot of questions. There are a few SEC teams left saban can beat 13-10, but not as many as there were three or four years ago.

Cooper and Fowler are the biggest losses. The OL will be better and as a group the receivers will be better. Adding Ridley and mullaney with Foster, Stewart, and Black as starters is not losing a lot on offense. Leon Brown and Austin Shepherd started last year because ross pierschbacher was a true freshman and Dominick Jackson was shaky on pass blocking. Jackson is one of best run blockers in the country.

Have you been on an island the last decade? I just read the article and Saban sounds pretty happy.

His comments on paper take a different tone when you hear his post scrimmage press conference. He all but said that they are only looking for a game manager, and right now are not getting it.

Look at Bama's schedule this year, they are going to have to get into a scoring contest with some very good Offenses. Look at what Sims had to do against some of those Offenses last year to win some of those games.

How many years did that group play in the NFL?

What does the NFL have to do with winning games in college?

Nothing, but to claim they won with below average talent is just wishful thinking.

Those three QB have thrown a total of 31 passes in the NFL and none of them are currently on a team.

They were average QB's. Sims probably wasn't even that. Look at the talent Bama has at QB now. None of them are "below average".

So below average quarterbacks make NFL rosters?

Who gives a shite about the NFL? Bama has won big with very mediocre qb play. Saban has been able to do this at LSU as well.

"Four losses minimum with Blake Sims" - SEC rant circa 2014

Yea i remember the Rant was laughing that if we had to go with Blake the decline would be for real. He went on to break Alabama single season passing yards record.

His stats for the season were.

2014 Season
Comp–Att Pct. Yards TD Int Long Avg/G
252-391 64.4 3,487 28 10 87 249.1

Against Auburn
20-27 74.1 312 4 3 75

SEC Championship Game
23-27 85.2 262 2 0 58

Not too shabby for a guy who was laughed at by the Rant.

As 3rd stringers? Yes. And Sims never made a roster.

So. This is a common rationalization that you hear from fanbases across the country every off season after they lose someone good. No one will demand the attention Amari Cooper did, and therefore, as a group, your receivers simply won't be better as a group. It's just not possible. Unless you have a guy drawing double and triple coverage as often as Amari did, your receivers won't be as good of a group. It's just not possible.

Didn't all of those guys have years in the system before starting? Bama has not yet had to play a qb before they were ready.... This year may be different if Coker can't win the job.

What SEC quarterbacks were on NFL rosters last year ? Then we can decide if any of them were below average .

Yeah...I understand what you are saying...but Cooper was a once in a decade kind of guy...IMO, far superior as a complete receiver than Julio. He was the focus and was targeted about as much as all of the other receivers combined. This group should be far more diverse because it appears that they are all badasses...Stewart, Foster and Ridley are downright stupid ridiculous. If indeed Bama finds someone to get them the ball, and I suspect they will, they are going to have a very effective passing attack. In other words, I think they leaned too heavily on Cooper and got great production IN SPITE OF the obvious focus from opposing defenses. They can't double all 3 of those guys plus Black.
