What SEC quarterbacks were on NFL rosters last year ? Then we can decide if any of them were below average .

There have been multiple good/decent college QBs that barely played (if at all) in the NFL. The point is Bama doesn't really need a great NFL type QB to win a bunch of games.

No, the point that Bama fans are missing or ignoring is they have won a bunch of games recently with QBs good enough to make NFL Rosters. To pretend that they will win with any below average QB is ignorant. College Football is becoming just like the NFL, a QB League.

Here's a list of QBs in the NFL. There's a ton of guys on there that I've never heard of.

My guess, some will be cut. But still the only one that would be considered average or below would be Shaw or Thompson or Bray. If you make a NFL Roster as a QB, you are in the upper 10% at your college position.

And there's a LOT of shitty QBs in college.

Wilson probably hung around a few years because he could successfully hand the ball off. I don't think he ever got above 3rd string.

If indeed Bama finds someone to get them the ball, and I suspect they will, they are going to have a very effective passing attack. In other words, I think they leaned too heavily on Cooper and got great production IN SPITE OF the obvious focus from opposing defenses. They can't double all 3 of those guys plus Black.

So you think all four of those receivers are gonna get doubled? I just don't think you understand how much easier it is on a defense if you don't have to guard Cooper. No one else on Bama's roster is going to demand that attention. The receiving corps isn't going to be better based on that alone.

When George Whitfield says "he's the best 18 year old QB I've ever seen", it says a mouthful. He has no ties whatsoever to the Alabama program. He also tutored Big Ben, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck, just to name a few.

not really as when someone says the same thing over and over about people it loses its emphasis.

He has also tutored lots of shitty QBs and had similar praises.

They were not 18 when he tutored them. Being a 7 on 7 superstar doesn't always translate to an 11 on 11 real game star.

Barnett looks like a future #1 overall pick to people who have been watching him in practice

This is where I exit the thread, laughing hysterically.

Why? He was the #1 prep QB, has all the physical tools, has blown away Kiffin with his ability to learn quickly, and has had a renowned QB guru say he's the best 18 year old QB he's ever seen (who worked with several of the current elite NFL QBs). The #1 overall pick is usually a QB. There's absolutely nothing outrageous about that statement at all.

Now, him starting as a true freshman and it being a good thing for this year's success is another story altogether. But by all accounts, his potential is otherworldly.

You could be right. He's far from the only one saying things about Barnett, though.

That being said.... examples?

Everything I hear from Birmingham Radio, he is not ready physically or mentally to play this year. He will redshirt.

He's tutored a lot of HS and "after their freshman season" guys.

I'm not proclaiming he'll be an All-American. But by all accounts, his upside and ability to learn quickly are at a very high level. He'll be the starter pretty soon, and I'd be very surprised if we isn't very successful.

Why the heck am I wasting time on you vermin anyway? I've got better things to do.. like take a nap.

He's up to 212 (from 195 or so). People continue to say "so and so isn't big enough to play QB in the SEC and take a pounding" about (insert young SEC QB), and those guys continue to survive the full season in the league. I'd prefer if we could redshirt him. He made a lot of mistakes in the scrummage yesterday, but that's to be expected. We'll see. We'll be fine either way.

The truth of the matter is we have a good game manager on the roster in Morris. If none of the gunslingers like Coker, Corn or BB are ready...we can always revert to the 2008-2009 offense of ground and pound and play action with a smart QB who knows the offense and doesn't turn it over. Play field position and grind teams down. I think Saban is just trying to figure out if any of the gunslingers can be trusted, as it's obviously better to have a playmaker at the position if possible.

“I understand what I’m about to say is going to pop some eyes open in the barber shop, but Blake is, by far, the best 18-year-old quarterback that I’ve ever been around,” Whitfield said. “And I’ve got to put that into that context because it’s really where you are at certain stages. I didn’t know Andrew (Luck) at 18. I didn’t know some of the rest of those kids. But he’s further along than some of the prospects we’ve worked with when they came out of college, just physically and skill set-wise and things of that sort.”

Bama will average over 30 a game like they always do. Put a koala bear back there at QB. DGAF. They will also have the best defense in the country. Guaranteed. Bookmark it. Tell your grandchildren. SEC title and playoffs again. Roll Damn Tide.
