re: Les Miles and LSU: SECR opinion

So you guys say that UF was only in the game b/c of Debose's return and b/c of a turnover but don't acknowledge that you probably lose another game (WVU) without PP's return?
Bottom line, the fake FG was by far the flukiest play of the game, and by rule the drive shouldn't have continued.
Who cares that backup DB's were playing or that you had a lead vs UNC? They still should've won the game, same goes for UT, they deserved that one even if you played "like shite," which is my whole point, Miles's teams play like that a lot, they're way too inconsistent.
Unless Kragthorpe is way better than expected, this years 3-4 loss season will change your perception of Miles, just as a 1 loss season might change mine and the people that are on the fence

I wonder what the perception of Miles would be right now had he gone 8-5 or 9-4 last year. 3 plays that SHOULD have been made would've resulted in 3 losses to mediocre teams.
-UNC dropped 2 passed in the end zone at end of game
-If UT wouldn't have substituted, game over
-The UF game, fluke fake FG should've never happened
I know these are all what if's, but he was within 3 plays that probably should've gone the other way of going 8-5.
Those 11 wins (that shouldn't have been) are what is making everyone expect 11 more this year, and the reason the hype is so big for LSU. Therefore, LSU won't live up to that hype this year, and people will go back to questioning Miles again.
I see 9-3 tops, 8-4 likely with 4 losses between these 6 teams (Oregon, WVU, MSU, Bama, Arkansas, UF)

Those two are clearly the best, the question is who comes in the class behind them?
Cadillac and Ronnie Brown?
Emmitt Smith?
Shaun Alexander?

I think it comes full circle and he ends up at Springdale High School while Malzahn takes over at OM

Outside of being one of the best if not the best secondary coaches in the nation, Saban's claim to fame is recruiting.
Outside of some bold decisions late in games, I wouldn't neccessarily say we "outcoach" people. It's a lot like pro football. We don't trick a lot of people, we just line up and make you like it.
I'd say this is underselling Saban just a bit, his defenses are very well prepared on a consistent basis. He's shut down some pretty high powered offenses (OU in nat'l title game while at LSU), but doesn't necessarily get credit for a great plan or having great adjustments b/c that's expected of his teams.
Teams that get credit for having "great game plans" or "outcoaching" teams are usually always underdogs.
But besides coaching and recruiting, he's probably also better at player development and running all aspects of a program better than anyone.

Much, much harder in basketball, especially for a Southern team, since baseball should be easy for a Southern team that cares about baseball.
Different mid majors make runs in basketball every year, lots more of them are capable of competing than in any other sport. Then you're also playing with 2 less major conferences in baseball since the Big East and Big 10 are basically taken out of the equation.
It's not even comparable, FSU has made 34 straight NCAA baseball appearances and have made a Super Regional 11 of the 13 years. FSU has also made 31 straight bowl games. It's been a huge struggle in basketball though, all while playing in a tough conference that's historically going to place a lot of teams in the basketball tourney

Making the Sweet 16 in basketball is no harder than it is to make a Super regional in baseball. Basketball has 335 teams, baseball 280- but once you get outside the top 100 teams, the rest are pretty much garbage. Bundy, you dont have the northern teams being good in baseball, but you have more good teams in the south and west than basketball. Talk competition all you want, but the power lies with the power conferences. It's been over 20 years since a non-BCS team won the basketball title. And in the last 10 years, the numbers are about even with mid-majors making the Sweet 16 in basketball and Supers in baseball. You're telling me it's harder for Duke to make the Sweet 16 playing their 1st 2 games in Greensboro- against a nobody and then a 8-9 seed-than it is for State to go to GaTech and win that regional to make a Super? Thats a crock of shite
Did you miss the thread where 90% of the people on here disagreed with this?
Power conference teams are always going to rule, but Butler has played in the final game 2 years in a row and half of the Final 4 this year was Butler and VCU.
Also in baseball, the so called "power conference" teams are cut by a third b/c the Big 10 and Big East suck.
So not only are you competing against many more mid majors in basketball, but more "major" conference teams as well

There are a lot more teams competing for the same amount of spots, a lot more teams that are capable of competing and making a run, both mid major teams and BCS teams.
Football has a little over 100 DI teams, baseball 280 but more than half of those are Northern teams that don't ever compete, and basketball has close to 350 teams, and different mid majors make runs every year

And just like it was proven on here before, making the final 32 in basketball is like being a top 15 team in any other sport, and being a top 15-25 team at a school like MSU not really underachieving.
Also, name a time when the last possession in basketball DIDN'T result in a 1-on-1 situation. On-court coaching in basketball is less important than other sports, recruiting is more than half the battle

If I had a choice between Casher and Black, I'd take Casher no questions asked.
