re: Stubhub not paying on time

Chicken, yes everything was correct and every time I called SH said everything re my account was in order. I finally got paid yesterday September 26 twelve days late from when they originally said. Never did get an explanation why.

I tried using Seatgeek but it doesn’t allow listing of season tickets except for MLB. My brother and I cannot go to any games this year, thus selling season tickets was the way to go.

Chicken-I can send a screenshot of the email I received in August saying I’d be paid 5-8 days after event. The “event”, defined as the end of the first home game, was September 7. My online account later said I was scheduled to be paid September 14 (no copy). Now it says September 26. I also have an email from a customer rep saying I would be paid September 22. Customer rep today told me I’d be paid today. Tell me how to send info to you privately.

Stubhub not paying on time

Posted by Froghair on 9/24/24 at 9:45 am
I sold season tickets for almost $4k on Stubhub. Was to be paid on September 14. Still no money and SH gives no explanation why. I’ve called numerous times. “Your case has been escalated” is all I get. This is like stealing money since SH keeps the float.

Anyone else not getting paid on time by SH?

Thanks for the link! I wish the talking heads on TV would be this informative.

UW should hire Pete Carroll

Sellers Beware-Stubhub Policy

Posted by Froghair on 8/20/22 at 12:44 pm
Full disclosure--I sold my season tickets (football) on Stubhub.

Stubhub has changed its policy for sellers. It used to be you'd get paid about a week after the sale, NO MATTER WHEN the game took place. Now, you won't get paid until about a week after the game takes place. That means, for example, if you sell your Alabama tickets on Stubhub today you won't get paid until a week AFTER the game. Meanwhile Stubhub has kept money from the buyer from today until a week or so after the game...almost 3 months.

Stubhub says this is because if the "event" is cancelled the buyer needs to get reimbursed and essentially claims the seller is still at risk. I SAY BS.!!! Once the ticket is sold, buyer assumes the risk.

Stubhub has no risk at this point. The seller cannot cancel the transaction and sell tickets elsewhere, and the buyer cannot cancel. Stubhub has already collected payment + commission from the buyer. Yet it withholds payment to seller.

Stubhub says it "guarantees" the buyer if the event doesn't take place they will get their money back. This is a lie. Nothing comes out of Stubhub's pocket. What Stubhub's "guarantee" really means is the seller doesn't get paid and assumes all the risk. Stubhub doesn't "guarantee" anything itself other than it'll make the seller pay.

Wait!...it gets worse. Suppose you sell LSU football season tickets now. You won't get paid until 5-8 business days after the first game of the season, or as long as Sept. 23 this year. But what happens if, for example, the Alabama game is cancelled for some "act of God"? Stubhub still comes after you via your credit card. And how is the value calculated? The face value of the ticket? A pro-rated amount of the total cost of the season tickets package? Stubhub doesn't say.

Essentially what Stubhub has done is stretch out the time it has use of the "float"--the money it keeps from the buyer before having to disburse money to the seller--all the while not assuming any risk. Instead of paying sellers 5-8 business after the transaction date, it pays after the event which may be way out in the future. Over millions of tickets over a long time, this is big money.

In the case of season tickets sellers, maybe you can protect yourself by cancelling the credit card on file after you get paid. Example: Sell you season tickets now and get full payment no later than September 23. Then cancel the card on file at Stubhub, or "block" Stubhub from charging to that card.

Any comments on what policies are for other ticket exchanges? Any recommendations of other exchanges?

I grew up in BR and went to LSU undergrad, and my family has strong ties to LSU going back many years. But I moved up to Seattle in '75 for a job and went to grad school at UW. UW is a very good public school and honestly LSU is nowhere close by comparison. UW football is big up here and you shouldn't underestimate the support it gets from alumni and the community. UW football stadium is the most scenic and can get very loud. LSU football is a big fish in a little pond in BR. UW football is a big fish in a big pond. But the passion for LSU football, and football in the SEC, is far greater.

Most of my time up here I lived in Seattle but I moved to the east side burbs about 10 years ago. When I moved here Seattle was quite depressed because of the "Boeing Bust". For a long time we had what I would call liberal Republicans or conservative Democrats running things. Middle of the road...I was happy with this. Things didn't change that much until around 2000. It's been really sad for me witnessing the takeover of Seattle city politics by "loony left" politicians. However, even in Seattle there is a glimmer of hope with the election last week-- several bat-shite crazy loony left politicians were voted down big-time! Still a ways to go.

Crime rates up here, even recently in Seattle, are much much much lower than in BR. This is a big issue for me; without safety there is no freedom. There are a few "off-limit" areas up here, but when I visit BR I'm struck by how much of the area is off-limit. No comparison really. In general schools are much better up here.

Summers are the best anywhere in the lower 48 as far as I'm concerned--long, relatively cool days with virtually no rain. Winters are trying for me, not so much because of rain but daytime is short and there are a lot of gray days. We get about 40 inches of rain per year v. about 60 in BR. But we rarely get a downpour as is common in BR, and if we do it doesn't last long. Lightening is rare.

The state has 39 counties but probably only about 6 of those account for the vast majority of liberal voters. Three surrounding Seattle, one which includes Olympia the state capitol, one around Tacoma, and one around Bellingham in the north. The eastern part of the state is completely different and votes conservative. The economy is dominated by desert farmland (owing to irrigation, much from the Columbia River) and ranch land. We either lead or are near the top in producing apples, wheat, cherries, hops, potatoes, wine grapes, and many others. More recently there have been a number of server farms built because of cheap hydroelectric energy from dams along the Columbia River.

This state is blessed with outdoor recreational opportunities (though we could use a real ski resort at some point). Environment is more of a real passion up here and people are more willing to tax themselves for it.

Pete Carroll re Damien Lewis and CEO

Posted by Froghair on 1/5/21 at 8:48 pm
FWIW on the local (Seattle) sports radio this morning Pete Carroll was asked about Damien Lewis. Pete had high praise for the young man and said from the moment he got to camp he's been a great addition to the team, and he could play center (Pocic is the starting center) if needed. He also said they drafted Damien largely based on recommendation from "Eddie". Eddie told Pete they would love Damien from the start and he would be a great addition. Pete said he has known and worked with Eddie a long time and trusted Eddie completely to give him advice on a player.

Now, we just need Pete to give Eddie good advice on coaches to hire (no more Bos!).

In from Mui Ne, Vietnam. Start time 4AM :snoozer:
On the plus side, Tiger Beer is readily available
I believe there is a rules exception for intentionally spiking that was instituted in the (relatively) recent past--maybe 10-15 years??? I don't believe it used to be the case.

Rules question re Alabama's on-side kick

Posted by Froghair on 11/13/19 at 11:51 pm
Watching the replay, the kicker's planted (L) foot was about half-yard ahead of the 35 yardline (and football) when contact was made with the ball with his R foot.

Why is the kicker allowed to do this? Is there an exception in the rules somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

In the future, try using a VPN and connect to a US server. This "tricks" the provider into thinking you're in the US rather than overseas. Caution: If you're trying to log on to your cable provider, usually they only allow live games on your in-home network, so this would not work in that case. But it absolutely works for a lot of other shows.

re: Wilcox to Cal

He did a great job turning Washington's defense around. The difference he made in his first year here was like night and day. Of course there was no where to go but up because Sark, in his probably-drunk stupor, brought his friend in to be his first defensive coordinator. The change was comparable to Chavis' first year at LSU after that god-awful defense LSU had with Miles' two-headed experiment.

In my case, I graduated from both schools. Grew up in BR but have lived in the PNW for 40 years. I have W on my posts because when W was going through such a terrible time a number of years ago I figured they needed my help more than LSU. Not quite time to switch back, yet. BTW, I have three LSU season tickets and still make it to a game or two every year.
Husky Stadium is absolutely the G.O.A.T.
...Petersen would ever leave UW for Texas, LSU, etc. Scott Woodward (an LSU and BR Catholic HS grad) hired him at UW so he might have some insight.

The sports radio guys up here in Seattle said they heard when the UW job came open Petersen had his lawyer make the initial contact because he wanted to come to the UW. Is this true?
