Screw Scammers and People Selling Tickets 3rd-Party
Posted by metalfacedterrorist on 9/12/19 at 3:04 pm
Jason Isbell announced earlier this week that he is doing a three-night stand at the Georgia Theater in mid-November. I've been waiting patiently for something like this since I moved to Athens last August.
Pre-sale codes for the shows were made available at 9 A.M. and were available for use at 10. Apparently, both Friday AND Saturday tickets are now completely unavailable.
Now, it could be that it's just the presale tickets that are sold out. But, I saw one jackass on the Facebook event page attempting to sell 4 tickets immediately after the presale code was released.
frick these people.

Nicholson’s opening monologue about being left alone (i.e. never knock on this door) sets the tone early.

One of the most intense live acts I have ever seen.
Supposedly, all four members play completely sober and therefore produce some of the tightest and most consistent performances in metal.
When it comes to heavy progressive music, they can go toe-to-toe with just about any band in the past 20 years.

There really seems to be a legitimate curse. It’s either an injury or an off-the-field issue.
We’ve already had 4 legitimate All-American sophomores falter in some way as juniors:
-Mathieu
-Fournette
-Key
-Guice

He wasn’t even billed as 6’6” as a senior in high school (when those numbers are most likely to be inflated).

So, which current comedians or late night TV personalities do you consider to be on that level?
Doug Stanhope is probably one of the most outspoken comics today when it comes to politics. He’s also one of the best in the world.
Carlin
Pryor
Hicks
Rock
Chappelle
Black
Williams
Each has touched on politics or race at some point in their careers.
Say what you want about Sykes, but any fan of comedy who doesn’t respect Pryor or Carlin doesn’t know shite.

I am amazed by how polarizing this movie has been so far. I went into this movie with some major expectations. However, I left the theater feeling vastly disappointed and underwhelmed. I found myself dozing off during the second act.
Pros:
-Aesthetics (holy shite this film nails the look, feel, and sound of the era)
-Brad Pitt (badass and cool as shite)
-Leonardo DiCaprio (performance a bit over-the-top at certain points, but he was funny as hell throughout)
-Bruce Dern
-Bruce Lee “cameo” (terrifyingly accurate with the inflection of his speech)
-Brandi (only time I’ve ever rooted for a pit)
-Third Act (aside from the odd voice-over by Kurt Russell and the Italian sequence, this was the most entertaining section of the film)
-Little girl
-Editing DiCaprio into actual films/television
-Tension during Manson Family encounter
Cons:
-Pacing (movie seemed to drag on and on during the second act)
-Lack of Manson (screen time was short lived and portrayal wasn’t even close to accurate)
-Sharon Tate (as others have said, felt pointless; if Pitt would’ve rescued them instead of reacting to his own attack then it might have been more impactful)
-Bloated cast (some actors seemed to serve little to no purpose in the narrative)
-Foot fetish overkill (Jesus, Tarantino didn’t even try to hide it this time)
-Brad Pitt fricking up Bruce (How much of my disbelief must I suspend?)
-Lack of a cohesive narrative (perhaps due to not having a central protagonist, but the film is Tarantino’s most disjointed yet)

Not going to lie, that logo bummed the hell out of me. It’s very seldom that cool records have shitty aesthetics.
re: Best Pantera Album
Posted by metalfacedterrorist on 7/22/19 at 12:51 pm
At some point in time, I have been willing to say any of the four “classic” albums.
Vulgar Display of Power was the most influential. Cowboys From Hell was arguably Anselmo’s best vocal work. And The Great Southern Trendkill is one of the heaviest albums ever written.

Bull shite. EA sports even said they would be happy to pay players for their likeness for NCAA games but the NCAA shot it down. There are ways these guys could get paid that wouldn’t even be noticed by the colleges they attend. It’s just another example of corporate greed getting away with screwing over workers in America.
Title IX will never permit it. It’s a can of worms just waiting to be opened if that route is ever pursued.

I'll grant him this...he has a fair point.
Eventually, all of these amenities and luxuries for student-athletes are going to jump the shark.
However, as someone who has worked multiple non-paying internships in a field directly tied to athletics, it irritates me that student-athletes act as though they receive little to no benefit whatsoever from receiving an athletic scholarship.
The fact is that the NCAA is a broken and highly flawed system. Coaches salaries, athletic facilities, and revenue are almost unrecognizable in magnitude from the inception of the NCAA.
Still, the ability to prosper off of and benefit so greatly from athletic talent alone makes me a bit jaded in defending these guys. They are always welcome to pursue other professional avenues if they don't agree with this system.
The cold reality is that college sports CANNOT be sustained if the decision is ever made to pay athletes. The system will absolutely crumble due to both the expected and unforeseen legal and financial issues that will inevitably arise.

The lack of appreciation for Michael Divinity is inconceivable to me. Apart from total tackles, his numbers outshine both Moses and Philips.
With him being slated to start, the guy will have a breakout season.

Girlfriend can curl with 30s and chest press with 60s. If it wasn’t for having a partially ruptured disc in her back, she would put up some insane numbers for squats and deadlifts.
I’ve worked around some badass women who are powerlifters, weightlifters, or former collegiate athletes.
Knew a chick who ran track at Penn State (sprinter) who was a hell of an Olympic lifter. She was a nutritionist who worked at Pennington and had some of the best legs I’ve ever seen.
I have a buddy whose Puerto Rican girlfriend is a power lifter that crushes some massive weights for her age and size. She’s pretty fine, too.
