You mean like Malzahn, Tommy Tubby and little Terry Bowden? Ha--graveyard indeed.
John Kelly is a Beast
Posted by SLM85VOL on 9/17/17 at 5:06 pm
For some reason Lyle doesn't recognize what he has in this running back. Lyle must have zoned out what was happening before his very eyes. Maybe he has ADD: for some inexplicable reason, Tennessee’s coaches called three consecutive pass plays when it was first and goal, second and goal, third and goal and whoops! An interception killed off anything that remotely looked like a positive drive. Three pass plays, with John Kelly in the backfield.
Three.
And they did that TWICE. Once in the third quarter, and again in the fourth with the game on the line. Once again, I proved to be an unfortunately and accidentally good prophet. Our coaches didn’t adapt their game plan, and went right back to the exact same play calling that cost the Vols the earlier touchdown.
By the time the smoke cleared, the entire momentum of the game had shifted to a Florida team with an absolutely God-awful offense and a defense that had been on its last leg from being on the field so long…and yet still won despite the poor coaching on their side of the field.
So now come…the questions. Vol Nation has a lot of questions for Butch Jones and his staff. Funny part of that is that the answer was staring them right in the face the whole game.
To win clutch games, gentlemen, you have to feed the beast.
Sometimes, a player comes along that is just indomitable, who refuses to just give up on anything?—?a play, a drive, a game.
John Kelly is that player, and John Kelly is a beast. When the chips are down, when the game is on the line, when everything is in jeopardy the offensive playbook should read as following: FEED THE BEAST.
The Beast doesn’t always have to be Kelly, although in today’s game he most certainly was in serious beast mode. Sometimes, the beast may be Marquez Callaway. Or Josh Smith. Or Ethan Wolf. Whoever the beast may be, feed him.
Because feeding the beast leads to wins.
In Gainesville today, John Kelly was the beast.
And our coaching staff let him and the rest of the players who put it all out there on the field down horribly.
Today’s game against Florida was the absolute worst play-calling I have ever seen. EVER. The way the Vols lost was embarrassing. Jim McElwain is lucky he was only the second-worst coach on the field and got saved by a panicked heave-ho that shouldn’t have mattered in the slightest, and that almost certainly shouldn’t have been caught for a touchdown.

The 2017 season is already 25 percent over for Tennessee football and we’re officially into the truly meaningful portion of Butch Jones’ fifth year with the Vols.
During his time in Knoxville, Jones has had multiple top 10 recruiting classes, all the national primetime coverage a program could ask for, and fan engagement is near some of its highest levels ever.
And yet, Jones cannot beat a clearly inferior Florida team.
But that’s not everything he can’t do with all of the incredible resources he’s been provided and provided for himself.
He apparently can’t give the ball to John Kelly at the half-yard-line when Kelly has been completely imposing his will on the opposing team all day.
He can’t beat a wretched South Carolina team coming off of a bye week with an SEC East title on the line.
He can’t go for two points when his team is up by 12 in The Swamp.
He can’t go for it on 4th and goal from the 1-yard-line against Oklahoma when he has one of the best power running backs in the nation in his backfield.
He can’t beat Vanderbilt more than twice out of four attempts with a wholly superior team in every matchup.
Needless to say, Saturday's disaster wasn’t Jones’ first trip around the coaching malpractice block. And this simply can’t be ignored or erroneously rationalized any longer.
Time and patience are running out for Jones and every excuse in the world won’t get him out of this bind.
Just do a quick search of the phrase “fire Butch Jones” on Twitter. It’s a blistering stream of discontent that is no longer coming from only the overly negative Big Orange fans.
Even the UT fan pages on Facebook that have become known for being relentlessly positive have taken a bit of a turn against Jones.
You can only spurn people so many times before even the most cheery among them say enough is enough. And the Vol faithful appear to be near the end of their rope.
Frankly, if you still fully believe in Butch Jones, I would encourage you to join the clergy because you have the patience of a saint.
Obviously, there are still nine games left in the season and Tennessee could still win the SEC East and beat expectations. But, if the level of coaching remains where it was against the Gators, that will not happen.
And notice that I haven’t brought up any of Jones’ assistant coaches. There’s no reason to do that because Jones hired them all and their actions fall squarely on his shoulders. Getting a new offensive or defensive coordinator won’t help at this point because Jones has already done that. Multiple times over, in fact.
This is on Butch Jones and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Frick you. You suck worse. Baby Lyle is just slightly more moronic than Coach Mac and all the Gator fanbase.
re: Why wasn't Tennessee playing prevent Defense?
Posted by SLM85VOL on 9/17/17 at 5:00 pm
Exactly. Plus, people seem to forget that a field goal beats the Vols at that point in the game. They could have thrown a 30 yard pass to run out of bounds to set up the winning field goal. Number 22 cannot cover a snowman and Abernathy took the wrong angle. Should have been backing up.
re: Tennessee gave up 190 yards of offense to UF in the 4th
Posted by SLM85VOL on 9/17/17 at 4:56 pm
The Gators didn't do shite in the entire game offensively. 65 of those 190 yards if that truly correct came on the last play.
re: Good game vols

Thanks. Congrats, but Gary Daniels said it best: both fan bases will be pissed no matter who wins this game. No offense to you, but all offense to Coach Mac as that is the worst Gator team to have ever beaten the Vols. The Vols are their own worst enemy. Three missed field goals and three pick (one pick six). One of the missed field goals came after the Vols are on the one yard line in the red zone. Lyle doesn't have the sense to call a timeout to get Dormady back in the game and Guarantano flubs the snap. The Gators would have won by 30 with a decent coach.

Both teams suck and certainly are not top 25 teams, but this is what it will take to get Butch fired. This in addition to two teams in Tennessee playing better should be enough to do the trick. However, UT's administration has been the real enemy of the school in their hiring of ADs who hired horrible head coaches. Lyle got raped by Shark Boy. Butch coached that abortion on the field that let a receiver get behind not only the corner back but also the safety with 9 seconds left to go in the game. This was after numerous points left on the field by the Vols. No way Florida is the better team, but since both suck--who cares.

Is this before or after UT fires Butch and then hires Mike Norvell? LOL
Will Butch Jones Finally Play Aggressively for Four Quarters
Posted by SLM85VOL on 9/16/17 at 1:39 am
Or: play conservative staying with the running game and letting his field goal kicker give them field position? This is what I'm expecting him to do, but that is what UF is likely expecting and will stop the run to force the inexperienced QB to throw. UF's defense would love nothing more to see Dormady throw on 3rd and long. Trevor Daniel is averaging 44.6-yards per kick with a 70 yarder in the GT game. I'm not looking for predictions on who will win, but more depth as to what we will see game strategy-wise. I missed the UF v Michigan game so what do you Gator fans see as their game plan on offense?

The UGA fanbase calling out the UT fanbase--pots and kettles. And if true--which I doubt--it's nowhere close to teabagging a drunk who cannot defend himself or poisoning trees like the illustrious fanbase of Bammer Jammers.

Take your time and stay safe. I will have to miss it this year. Can't say I'm that unhappy about it.
re: Tennessee or Florida, who do you have winning this one?
Posted by SLM85VOL on 9/12/17 at 10:20 pm
Last season, Shoop could cite injuries as a reason why teams were running and passing through the Vols at a historic pace. And in this season’s opener, he could point to Georgia Tech’s unorthodox, option-oriented offense as the reason why Tennessee gave up 41 points and 655 yards.
But if the defense falters against Florida, there is no excuse. That would be such a condemnation of the Tennessee defense that Jones should demote Shoop and put someone else in charge. Jones has options. Defensive line coach Brady Hoke has been both a head coach and defensive coordinator. Secondary coach Charlton Warren has been a defensive coordinator, too.
Changing coordinators early in a season would be a drastic move. But if Tennessee’s defense would struggle against an offense as impaired as Florida’s, a drastic move would be needed. In fact, you could say it was needed before the season ever started.

I could see Coach Cut going to Tennessee again if Butch flops this year.

Not going to happen. Not sure where they play this game, but it's best to be played this Saturday somewhere.
re: John Gruden

Gruden has the best deal now. No pressure with big money. He had his chance to coach the Vols and turned it down.

Based on what? Losing to an inexperienced Michigan team and no tune-up game after that. I see no advantage to the Gators other than playing in the swamp if the game is even played there. The betting line has shifted now favoring the Vols, which is only an attempt at splitting the bets 50/50 but Vegas at least sees the Gators having no offense. I think the Vols have their best chance of winning since they choked against the Gators two years ago. Didn't the Vols give up four 4th down conversions with Butch calling a timeout to give Coach Mac time to rethink his play-called? Then, the Vols lost on a 4th and 24? Not seeing that happening again. Coach Mac is proving to be more dysfunctional than Butch and that is saying something.

Been saying that since they joined the conference, which needs further realignment anyway switching Auburn. Making Mizzou fans travel that far to Gainesville makes as much since as having West Virginia in the Big XII.

We parked close to the stadium for $15 in a church parking lot, but get there early.
